It's time for my Friday link up with A Little Bit of Everything, Grace and Love, and Momfessionals.
On Fridays I share things that made me happy from the week - a photo, a song, a quote or Bible verse, a beauty product, a recipe, a pair of cute shoes, etc. If it's a product, sometimes it's something I actually own and sometimes something I just saw online that gave me a smile. Sometimes it's serious and sometimes it's silly. I suppose I believe that God is in the simple details of life and yes, I can even find Him in a tube of lipstick.
1. Yoga with Adriene
I mentioned Yoga with Adriene in a post a few weeks ago, but I have never been more grateful for this website than I have been since we've been stuck in the house. She has all different levels and lots of 30 day challenges. You don't have to be an expert. She walks you through everything. This has been really beneficial both for my physical and emotional health. I highly recommend it.
2. Quarantine-Wear
I saw this the other day and I felt it deep in my heart.
(PS If you aren't following "My Therapist Says" on Instagram, you are sadder than you should be. It makes me laugh every single day.)
I wore jeans for one full hour when I went to a church meeting a week ago where there were four people sitting in four different corners of a very large room. As soon as I arrived back home I changed into pajamas. This means that for two full weeks minus that one hour it has been Quarantine-Wear City around here. Melanie Shankle referred to our style these days as "Shut-In Chic" and I am here for it.
The loungewear from Aerie is coming in strong during this period in our lives. I bought a really cute sweatshirt/jogger set in December from them and I wear it all the time. Unfortunately, it's not available now, but this tie dye boxy crewneck sweatshirt and matching fleece joggers will be perfect for you jigsaw puzzle date night.
This pj set is adorable. I don't know much about this specific brand, but we all know that Amazon is one of the heroes of this Global Pandemic, so I feel like we can trust them at this point. There are a bunch of different colors and you're going to need to be comfortable for quite a few days if you're going to rewatch all the seasons of Parks & Rec, so I'd buy a couple.
3. False Victim
My mom recommended this book to me because the author came to talk to her Women's League group. It is a true story about a woman in a basic suburban Northern Virginia neighborhood who is stalked by her neighbor - another woman. This is not the type of stalking you're thinking about. It is insane. For those who live in Northern Virginia like me, you'll find it even more interesting because it takes place in Woodbridge. You'll recognize a lot of the areas - restaurants, shopping malls, etc. - mentioned in the book and also you will start wondering if your neighbor is a banana-sandwich-crazy-pants nutjob. This will be great to read in between Parks & Rec episodes.
4. Quarantine Tanning Lotion Experiments
I also have this one which is supposed to be goof-proof and isn't as expensive. I'm thinking of trying it, too.
One of the biggest problems of tanning lotions is the smell. I just read yesterday about this Fake Bake Flawless Self-Tan Liquid Spray and supposedly it doesn't smell bad like most tanning lotions. I don't own this one, but if these others don't work out and we're still in lockdown, I might give it a try, too.
5. Zoom Online Meetings
By far my very favorite part of this week was being able to be a part of two Zoom Online Bible Study meetings. If I ever lamented technology in my whole life, I am heartily sorry for these my misdoings. What a gift it was to see the sweet faces of many of the women in my Tuesday group and to be led by men and women in my Wednesday group. We were able to share a number of joys that we had experienced in this time as well as to pray for each other's concerns and frustrations.
On Tuesday, I was able to share with my group some really wise words I read in a devotional from proverbs31.org that morning.
" God sees more than we can see. He knows more than we know. He works in ways beyond our comprehension. If we agree to follow Him only when we understand what He's doing, we'll stop short of experiencing His inexplicable wonders. We can let the mystery of God bolster our doubts or buoy our wonder."
Pushing away doubt right now is really, really hard. And I would contend that God is not surprised by our doubt and He can take it. I am really hopeful that we can strive to look for His wonders in the midst of this very scary time. I believe that they are there. I've had moments when I was scared and panicky but I've also clearly felt His presence and provision. I've heard him in the birds chirping without a care as I run outside. I've seen Him in the sun that still rises outside my window every single morning lighting up the sky with pink and orange and yellow. I've felt His presence as my boys bow their heads to ask God's grace and mercy on our family and on doctors and scientists and leaders every night at the dinner table - EVERY. NIGHT(!).
I still believe that there are inexplicable wonders to be found in this world where His ways are not our ways and His thoughts are not our thoughts. I believe that He will fight for us. And even as I know His timing is not mine, I pray it will be soon.
Take care, Friends. Have a lovely weekend.
