5 Friday Favorites: July 10, 2020

It's time for my Friday link up with A Little Bit of Everything and Momfessionals

On Fridays I share things that made me happy from the week - a photo, a song, a quote or Bible verse, a beauty product, a recipe, a pair of cute shoes, etc. If it's a product, sometimes it's something I actually own and sometimes something I just saw online that gave me a smile. Sometimes it's serious and sometimes it's silly. I suppose I believe that God is in the simple details of life and yes, I can even find Him in a tube of lipstick.

Hello and Happy July, Friends. Guess what? We are half way through this crap-show of a year. This is what I'm thinking. We get Friday Night Lights's Coach Taylor to put 2020 on a school bus, drive out in the middle of the night when it's pouring down rain, and make it run sprints up and down a muddy hill until it realizes that we will not stand for this BS and it's time to finish strong.

Clear Eyes, Full Hearts, Can't Lose. Stop screwing around, 2020. You're better than this.

Here are some things that made this week better for me.

1. Green Smoothie

I have mentioned this smoothie before, but I've been drinking one just about every day this week and I love it. The recipe came from my friend, The Lovely and Talented Mrs. C., but I changed it up a little bit. I add this Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides Powder because it's supposed to be good for skin, nails, hair and joints and also because I'm basically throwing the whole kitchen sink at myself these days.

1/2 avocado, frozen
1/3 cup pineapple chunks, frozen
1/2 banana, frozen
1 scoop Vital Proteins Collagen powder
1/4 cup  spinach
1 T honey
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp ginger
8-10 oz. almond milk
Blend. Add cold water if too thick.

2. Reading the Gospels in July

It seems lately that I have gotten pretty overwhelmed with the volume of things I don't know and feel like I have a responsibility to learn right this minute. Whether it's trying to understand the conflicting information about the pandemic or realizing how much I have to learn about the history of racism in my country and in my own heart, or how to walk the line between letting go and still  actively parenting adult children, I feel like I'm constantly inundated with articles, books, podcasts and posts. So many of them are legitimately important to read, but in the past few weeks, it's all become too much for my brain to handle. Then I stumbled upon this guide for reading the gospels in July on Annie F. Downs's Instagram feed. I still have a stack of important books that I am committed to reading this summer, but I've decided the most important voice to listen to and the most important voice to filter all other voices through is the voice of Jesus. Three chapters a day will get us through all the gospels in 30 days. It is so comforting to read familar words and yet know that the Lord will teach me a new thing each time I read them. It's been one of the best parts of July so far for me.

3. A Couple of Books

I do have two other books that I'm reading now. I had a list a mile long of books on racism, but I had to narrow it down. I just received So You Want to Talk About Race? by Ijeoma Oluo which my church had recommended.

I feel like I'm the last person on Earth to read The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah. I had heard it recommended all over the place for the past couple of years and finally started it. It is so good. Man, what a writer is she. I highly recommend a good fiction book like this just to take you away from some of the madness for a bit. If you missed out on this one when it came out like I did, go get it.

4. Jumpsuit from Amazon

I mentioned this jumpsuit from Amazon a couple of weeks ago and it is still one of my favorite things I've bought from Amazon. I heard from quite a few people who ordered it as well, so I wanted to let you know that I ordered two different colors in the same size and they fit completely differently. What the heck? I was so annoyed. Anyway, just a heads up, there might be some weird sizing depending on which color you order, but I love this jumpsuit so much. (I mean, the one that fit, not the one that felt like I was wearing a full Spanx bodysuit.)

5. BASEBALL IS BACK FOR REAL

As I took my seat to watch Drew play his first game since March 11th all I could think was this:

"Wait upon the Lord. Be strong, take heart. And wait upon the Lord."

He'll make a way. It might look different, but He'll do it. I also was so happy to be reminded of how easy it is to spot my kid in the dugout. That hair, y'all. I'll never get over it. :-)

Have a great weekend, Friends!

Ooh thanks for the smoothie recipe. I really need to eat healthier and find ways to get veggies in since I don't like most of them, so I do want to try out smoothies and see how that works for me. LOL
