5 Friday Favorites: December 4, 2020

It's time for my Friday link up with A Little Bit of Everything and Momfessionals

On Fridays I share things that made me happy from the week - a photo, a song, a quote, a beauty product, a recipe, a pair of cute shoes, etc. If it's a product, sometimes it's something I actually own and sometimes something I just saw online that gave me a smile. Sometimes it's serious and sometimes it's silly. I suppose I believe that God is in the simple details of life and yes, I can even find Him
 in a tube of lipstick.

Happy Friday, Friends.

It's been a good week. A better week, I think. I'm liking this first week of December so far. Maybe, I've turned a corner in accepting this year for what it is. I mean, we've only got a few weeks left in 2020, so if the corner is going to turned, I suppose the time is now.

I'm not saying that Thanksgiving week wasn't great, but it was a little bit weird and I feel like I might have been trying too hard to make it something it wasn't. It's like I was gripping too tight, gritting my teeth, hustling a little more than usual to convince myself that everything was normal and fine. And looking back on it this week, I realized that while it was different than I had planned for it to be, it was completely and totally fine. In fact, it was pretty great. It was nice to have just my five people at the table and it was kinda awesome to tell them, "we'll eat when it's ready" and not have to be on a schedule. There was definitely an underlying feeling of loss that I couldn't quite shake, but in the end, everything was fine, even better than fine.

This week brought lots of normalcy - a lot of writing deadlines, a lot of driving the kid places, some walking with friends, and some basic family dinners with all five people - sometimes arguing, sometimes laughing, sometimes leaving all their dishes on the counter instead of the dishwasher. It was normal. As the very wise Gavin Rupp once said, "I used to think normal was boring, but now normal seems kinda special."

Here are some of my favorite things from a very normal/special week.

1. Boho Stone Wrap Bracelets

These stone beaded wrap bracelets are so cool and I think they'd make a great gift for any girl in your life no matter the age. I love wrap bracelets because I have freakishly small wrists and most bracelets don't fit me. There are a lot of options of stones to choose from. So pretty.

2. Sleep Shorts

These pajama shorts from Anthropologie are adorable and come in all kinds of patterns and colors. They were 30% off on Black Friday, so I bought a couple of pairs for gifts for a couple of people. In full disclosure those couple of people included me because if we've learned anything in the year of our Lord 2020 it's that surprises are overrated.

3. Hooded Tunic Sweatshirt

Since it's still loungewear season every day, all day around here, I'm always looking for tunic type shirts that are long enough to wear with leggings. This hoodie is so cute and it comes a ton of colors, but I really love the green one.

4. The Crown Season 4

Steve and I started watching The Crown Season 4 this week. It's all Diana and Charles right now and it is terribly sad, as most of us who have ever paid a tiny bit of attention to any pop culture knew already. I was listening to Knox and Jamie talk about this on The Popcast and Knox was incredulous about how Diana was treated - as if this was brand new news. This would be the exact scenario that is happening in my house. Steve is absolutely outraged that Diana is being treated so poorly. I keep looking at him like he is from another planet.

Steve: "THIS IS TERRIBLE. Why is he such a jerk? Is he even looking at her? She's so cute and sweet. What is wrong with those people? Why are they so mean?"

Me:

I mean, he never read a People magazine in the last 30 years?

5. The Lazy Genius Podcast: A Pep Talk for Not Knowing

This episode of The Lazy Genius Podcast is one of the best things I heard all week. It's only 10 minutes long so I won't give too much information on it here. Basically, she urges us in the midst of so much uncertainty to name the things we do know, even if they are seemingly insignificant things. It was a helpful practice for me this week.

Bonus #6: A Holiday Gift Guide for All My Baseball Peeps

If you have a baseball player/fan in your life and you need some gift ideas, I have a gift guide for you over at the Northern Virginia Travel Baseball League. Check it out here.

Thanks for stopping by! Have a great weekend!!!
