5 Friday Favorites: May 7, 2021

It's time for my Friday link up with A Little Bit of Everything and Momfessionals

On Fridays I share things that made me happy from the week - a photo, a song, a quote, a beauty product, a recipe, a pair of cute shoes, etc. If it's a product, sometimes it's something I actually own and sometimes something I just saw online that gave me a smile. Sometimes it's serious and sometimes it's silly. I suppose I believe that God is in the simple details of life and yes, I can even find Him
 in a tube of lipstick.

Happy Friday, Friends. I'm writing this from a Courtyard Marriott in State College, Pennsylvania because this 13 month old child will graduate from Penn State University this weekend.

I don't even know what to say about it right now, but since I'm a girl who writes words to process her feelings, it's quite possible I'll have one or a thousand things to say next week about the fact that that baby up there has finished his education and will be moving away POSSIBLY FOREVER. But for now, this is how I'm operating.

Let's get to some favorites this week. I gotta be quick because I have to get back to denial and pretending that this makes any kind of sense.

1. Kelly Corrigan Wonders Podcast

I adore Kelly Corrigan's writing. She is without a doubt my favorite non-fiction writer, so I was excited to listen to her podcast. I blew through the first ten episodes in just a couple of days. Her voice is so soothing and calm. She's incredibly smart, wonderfully introspective, and wickedly funny. Lately I've been thinking a lot about growing older and how important it is to remain curious - to keep reading, keep listening, keep thinking, and keep wondering. That seems to be the whole idea of this podcast. I love it.

2. Hello World by Kelly Corrigan

Speaking of Kelly Corrigan, her newest book is a children's book, Hello World, and I think it would be the perfect gift for any graduate from preschool to college. The book centers around the idea that as we move through our lives what will be more important than the places we go or the goals we accomplish are the people we meet and our efforts to get to know and learn from them. There's not a word Corrigan will write that I won't buy, so I've got this in my cart already.

3. Striped Maxi Dress

I had this dress in my cart because I was looking for something in Penn State colors to wear Joe's outdoor graduation ceremony and tailgate party. Since the graduation will take place at the football stadium I needed something on the casual side. I thought this would be perfect. Unfortunately, State College, Pennsylvania doesn't have the same idea of springtime that I do and it appears it will be in the low 50s during the ceremony, so I'm going to have to come up with something else. Still, I think this is a cute dress and it comes in a ton of colors if your college town understands how spring weather is supposed to work.

4. Air Fryer Carrot Chips

Healthy Little Peach has been my go-to site for healthy recipes lately. I tried these carrot chips and they were pretty good. Are they as "pretty good" as tortilla chips and queso? No ma'am. But a girl whose jeans are standing room only* lately, has to makes some tough decisions. (*Thanks Leslie Jordan for the best line ever.)

5. Cheese Fries and Some Guys

Taking a hard left turn from carrot chips and in the name of balance, I will say that by far my favorite thing from the week was sharing a huge mess of fried things and adult beverages with my son and his friends last night. When I took Joe to college I prayed for a million things for him. The greatest gift above anything he has gained in his four years at Penn State has been that he found his people. People who are solid, charming, accomplished young men. As a bonus they are a heckuva a lot of fun and make really good beverage suggestions. God has been faithful to us in the past four years. I'm so very grateful.

That's it for this week. I've got to go do some more celebrating. Have a great weekend!
