It's time for my Friday link up with A Little Bit of Everything and Momfessionals.
On Fridays I share things that made me happy from the week - a photo, a song, a quote, a beauty product, a recipe, a pair of cute shoes, etc. If it's a product, sometimes it's something I actually own and sometimes something I just saw online that gave me a smile. Sometimes it's serious and sometimes it's silly. I suppose I believe that God is in the simple details of life and yes, I can even find Him in a tube of lipstick.
Hello, Friends. We're entering the last week of October which means it's officially Fall now, right? It's been an absolutely gorgeous weather week around here. Cooler nights and mornings. Pumpkin Spice Everything is having its best moments. And by the grace of a good and loving God, the Texas Longhorns have a bye this weekend. Thank you, Sweet Jesus. Here are some of my favorite things from this week.
1. Trader Joe's Olive and Herbs Mixed Nuts
I went to Trader Joe's this week to get all the fun Fall things - leaf shaped tortilla chips, chocolate mousse pumpkins, pumpkin bread mix, etc. Then I saw this package of Olive and Herbs Mixed Nuts. OH MY WORD. This stuff is so good you'll want to cry. Hopefully, you have a Trader Joe's near you because although I did find these on Amazon, they're charging twice as much and that's annoying. Calm down, Amazon. You have enough of our money. Goodness gracious, but these are so good. It might be worth it.
2. AromaTech Santal Diffuser Oil
I was influenced by Sophie and Melanie on this one. I couldn't really figure out how to describe the scent of this Santal Oil. However, whoever wrote the Amazon ad has some strong feelings about it: "BOLD and INTOXICATING: this aristocratic and sensual scent embodies the mystical essence of an open fire in the woods." That is an A+ use of the thesaurus. Anyway, I did not know that I was in the market for bold, intoxicating and mystical, but here were are. It is a great scent for cooler days. Bonus: Using a diffuser means less of a chance I risk our lives by forgetting I have a candle burning.
3. Striped Bell Sleeve Sweater
It's sweater weather! Well, almost. I mean at least during the hours of 7:00 am -10:00 am. That means that at this point we really need a sweater that is lightweight lest we come in from walking the dog and end up standing around the kitchen in only a bra. (Hypothetical, of course, but hot flashes are a real thing.) This striped sweater is so cute, on the thinner side, and comes in all the colors. I am not a fan of fussy sleeves, but one review says these bell sleeves are rather short which I think is a good thing. I haven't ordered this yet, so am not positive on the quality, but I'm hopeful.
4. Park Lane Jewelry
My sweet friend, Lori, recently joined a company called Park Lane Jewelry. I've had a chance to check their collection out this week and said I would host a party for her. If you want to take a look you can see it all here. There are some great pieces for all ages of women in your life. I really like the simplicity of these Roo Earrings. They come in rose gold, silver, and gold. I think they'd make a great gift for anyone from your mother-in-law to your teen daughter to your son's girlfriend. (Shhhh!)
If you have a holiday party to go to (fingers crossed for 2021 to bring back holiday parties!) I think these Milan Earrings are perfect. They'd be great with a cocktail dress for a fancy event or really pretty to dress up a simple black sweater and jeans for something more casual.
I love this bracelet. It would be perfect for a Baylor Bears or Oregon Ducks or Green Bay Packers fan. Come to think of it, it's perfect for a long-suffering Texas Longhorn fan who is rendered sad and distraught when she sees burnt orange and white. Perhaps this green and gold is what I need in my life?
This Glory Ring would be a sweet gift for a teen girl. It comes in rose gold or silver.
PS A couple of years ago I mentioned these Lobe Wonder Support Patches. They are basically little oval stickers that you put on the backside of your ear lobe to keep stud earrings in place and to prevent heavy earrings from stretching your ear lobe. I just thought of them again this week because I ran out and I'm going to order more today. These are a gamechanger. Here's a real life before and after picture of my ear. My apologies if close-ups of ears gross you out.
5. My Guys at Rocky Top
My two oldest boys and Steve had a Guys Weekend this week in Knoxville which by all accounts seemed to have been what my grandmom would have called "a big time". Drew and I couldn't join in because he had a baseball tournament. Was I jealous to miss out on a weekend of college football and fraternity tailgates in one of my favorite towns in the world in order to hang out in a town called Farmville, Virginia where the only hotel available was a Super 8?
Well, yes, maybe, I was. Still, every time I opened a text with photos of my guys I couldn't help but be so happy for them.
The Skinner boys visited family, golfed, ate at some of our favorite places, tailgated with some local friends who also have a son at UT, and watched an amazing game between Ole Miss and the Vols. The game atmosphere was something to behold on tv, so I know it was electric in person.
Unfortunately, that game ended in some questionable calls, high emotions, and some folks throwing things including water bottles, beer cans, a golf ball (?), and a bottle of mustard (????) on the field which caused a 20 minute delay. It was quite a spectacle and not a great look for Vols fans (and some Ole Miss fans, too, I am sure.) which was a bummer because for the great majority of the game it was really exciting.
Do I understand that passionate fans can find themselves so riled up that they feel the need to throw things?
Unfortunately, I understand that feeling all too well, but in the words of Tami Taylor, "Come on, y'all." Mustard? I hope that brought some closure and peace to the person who threw it because. . .
College football has been wild and exciting and so darn much fun this year. I hate to see it tarnished like that.
I stand in Sad Solidarity with you, Tennessee Fans. Let's take a deep breath. I feel like we'll all be better people this weekend. I mean, my team is off so chances that I'll behave myself are much higher.
And, let's see . . . a quick check of the Vols schedule tells me they play . . . um . . .well . . .
They play Alabama.
In Tuscaloosa.
Let's everybody just have fun, 'kay?
Y'all have a good weekend.
