It's time for my Friday link up with A Little Bit of Everything and Momfessionals.
On Fridays I share things that made me happy from the week - a photo, a song, a quote, a beauty product, a recipe, a pair of cute shoes, etc. If it's a product, sometimes it's something I actually own and sometimes something I just saw online that gave me a smile. Sometimes it's serious and sometimes it's silly. I suppose I believe that God is in the simple details of life and yes, I can even find Him in a tube of lipstick.
Good morning, Friends. It's pouring down rain today and I have to say I don't hate it. It's been a crazy busy week around here. To be honest, it's been a little daunting. I'm taking some leaps and trying some new things and it's exhilirating and also super scary for a gal who very much enjoys staying right in the middle of her comfort zone with her diet Coke and her tiny little corner of the internet. I've been writing like mad. You can find an article I wrote for the American Travel Baseball Alliance here. I had the honor to speak at my church's Mid-Week Service this week which you can find here. I'll be speaking at another church this weekend. And I'm just about to start a new venture with Park Lane jewelry. What in the world?
Y'all. I have not watched a single episode of New Girl this week. I don't know. It's weird. I'm actually looking forward to zoning out with some college football tomorrow if the Horns will actually show up for all four quarters. And I'm praying for God to direct my steps as I move into a new season.
Do not be alarmed though. Your girl still found time to look around the internet at a bunch of random stuff to share this week. Here we go.
1. Tiered Tunic Dress
As I'm looking toward Thanksgiving and Christmas and all of the food, I think this Tiered Tunic Dress might play a role in my holiday events. It comes in a zillion colors. I think this green polka dot with boots and gold jewelry for Christmas would be so cute. There is also a coffee color which reminds me more of Thanksgiving. If you're not into the polka dots, most colors come in solid as well. The only issue is that it does look short on the model, but she's probably 6 feet tall, so . . . I think this looks like a very versatile, comfortable dress. Reviews say to size down.
2. Thai Basil Beef
www.modernproper.com |
My sister sent me this recipe and I made it last night. I loved it. Steve liked it. Drew wasn't a fan. I left the peppers out because I knew neither of them would be able to deal with seeing them. Turns out that Drew couldn't deal with the onions either. Or the little green basil leaves. So do with that information what you will. Maybe your people aren't such big ol' babies about stuff like that. Or maybe just eat it all yourself.
2 Tbsp. olive oil
1 lb. ground beef
1 bell pepper, thinly sliced
1 sweet onion, thinly sliced
6 garlic cloves, minced
1 cup loosely packed fresh basil leaves, divided
Fresh cilantro (optional)
1 Tbsp. chili paste
2 Tbsp. soy sauce
1 Tbsp. fish sauce
1 Tbsp. brown sugar
2 Tbsp. lime juice
In a small bowl, combine chili paste, soy sauce, fish sauce, brown sugar, and lime jucie until incorporated. Set aside.
Heat oil in a large skillet set over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon and stirring often, about 6 minutes.
Add the bell pepper, onion, and garlic to the beef and cook until vegetables start to soften, about 5 minutes.
Pour the sauce mixture along with the basil (reserving a few leaves for the top) and continue cooking until basil starts to wilt.
Serve over rice topped with basil and cilantro.

3. Champion Men's Jersey Joggers
It's getting cooler here and I'm starting to think about Christmas. I am not one to shop early, but with all the shipping delays we keep hearing about it, I guess it's time. I know that all of my boys will likely wear joggers and only joggers for the rest of the fall and winter because they are three very sophisticated and fancy young men. I saw these Champion Jersey Joggers recommended on Instagram by someone who said her husband loved them. The reviews are good and say they are pretty lightweight which is great for our weather right now. The black size Large is 25% off today and the XL is 45% off!
4. Shiatsu Back & Neck Massager
The sitting at the computer writing all day every day is not great for my neck and shoulders. Every night this week, I feel like I'm constantly having to try to push my shoulders down from hunching up around my ears. So, I think I'm putting this weird looking contraption on my Christmas list. I've seen it a number of times and then I listened to Laura Tremaine's 10 Things to Tell You Podcast and she highly recommended it. It's less than $40 so if it's as good as she says it is, that's a great price. It might be a great gift for athletes or maybe just all the people who keep talking about how "everything hurts". I seem to have an increasing number of those in my life.
5. Just a Little Verse from Isaiah
This verse came to mind this week as I was doing a whole bunch of "new things". Hey, Lord, maybe only one at at time would be a good plan? I know so many people - so many ages - in transition stages of their lives. It occurs to me that maybe we're all - always - in transition. And I think that sometimes God is truly giving us a way, shouting, "Hey, I've got this thing for you. OVER HERE!" and we don't perceive it. Either we are nervous that we're not equipped or worried about other's opinions or just stuck in one place because it's easy there. I've watched some kids be really brave and choose their own paths when their friends or families wish they'd stay put. I'm watching them trust themselves and God. I've watched adults - especially during the pandemic - change jobs and careers believing God will make a way. I think maybe, if we're willing to look - if we're willing to really trust Him - then He's willing and ready to do a new thing alongside us. And if that thing doesn't pan out? Well, then He'll make another way. He's full of surprises, isn't He?
Have a blessed weekend, Friends. And as always, Hook 'em Horns.
