It's time for my Friday link up with A Little Bit of Everything and Momfessionals.
On Fridays I share things that made me happy from the week - a photo, a song, a quote, a beauty product, a recipe, a pair of cute shoes, etc. If it's a product, sometimes it's something I actually own and sometimes something I just saw online that gave me a smile. Sometimes it's serious and sometimes it's silly. I suppose I believe that God is in the simple details of life and yes, I can even find Him in a tube of lipstick.
Happy "It's Almost May and I'm Still Freezing"! How is everyone? Are you cold? It was 80 degrees on Sunday and then I felt like I was going to freeze myself into meeting Jesus earlier than expected on Wednesday night at the baseball game. Hey, Virginia:
Here are some favorite things from this week which include some fun Mother's Day ideas. (Nine days left!) This list does not include Uggs or the fact that I wore them along with my giant winter coat and gloves and a blanket on April Flippin' 27th. Gah.
1. Bamboo Charcuterie Board Set
Friends. I made my first charcuterie board ever on Sunday afternoon when we had family over. I have been intimidated by the onslaught of charcuterie boards in my social media feed in the last several years. I doubted myself. I talked to my sister about my feelings of inadequacy. She gave me a photo book of various charcuterie ideas. It's been a journey. On Sunday, I went to Trader Joe's with a list and a photo in hand and channeled some Ted Lasso-esque optimism.
I thought my board was beautiful. The feeling of accomplishment was perhaps a bit excessive considering we are talking about cheese and sausage. Anyway, this brings me to my first Mother's Day idea. This bamboo charcuterie board with a drawer and utensils seems like a fabulous gift for Mom or yourself.
This is the book my sister sent me which you could include with the board. Also, I think this would make a great bridal shower gift!
2. Trader Joe's Snacks
First of all, please don't be jealous of my photo-taking abilities. I know all the food bloggers will be flooding here for tips on how to arrange their photos for the most pleasing presentation. At the aforementioned Trader Joe's I picked up these Crisp Crunchy Crisps Pea & Chickpea Snacks and this Everything But the Bagel Greek Style Yogurt Dip. It is the next best thing to a a bag of Ruffles and a container of French Onion Dip, but much better for you. Actually, who knows if it's that much better for you? If you know that it's not, please keep it to yourself and don't rain on my snack parade.
3. 3/4 Sleeve Tunic Blouse
I do not own this blouse, so I cannot vouch for its quality, but the reviews are pretty good. I don't know about your mom, but mine likes a sleeve and she likes a color. This blouse seems like it would be flattering on anyone and comes in a lot of very pretty colors. Get this top for mom and then hit me up for some earrings!
4. Better Homes and Gardens Red Lava Citrus Candle
In general, I think you get what you pay for with candles and unfortunately that means that the cheaper ones often don't smell as good when you burn them as they do in the store. However, I took a chance on this less-than-$15 candle from Wal-Mart and it's surprisingly good. The Red Lava Citrus seemed to be out of stock online at the time I'm writing this, but you might find it at your store. Amazon has it in a two-pack, but is charging way too much. Get over yourself, Amazon.
It is prom #5 for me. It's actually #8 if you consider the three I attended in high school and really we shouldn't consider them. Unless we want to spend some time contemplating the fact my dress had an ENORMOUS black and white striped bow tied above one of my shoulders that matched the black and white striped ENORMOUS hem. Or the fact, that one year I felt really great about the Sue Ellen Ewing-vibe I had going on. (Fun fact: our prom was at South Fork Ranch, so of course, I did.) Also, if you must know it took me about 567 hours to find a dress each time I went to the prom and at least seven hours to get ready.
But I digress. 5th time prepping a guy for prom. 5th time to waltz into the Men's Wearhouse and sign in on the little clipboard and write down the date of the prom which is basically in 5 minutes. Joe's name and Kyle's name are still on the account they look up with my phone number. I tried not to cry. "Welcome back, Mrs. Skinner. Let's just run that credit card you have on file, shall we?"

Someone is mighty impressed with himself ;-) |
Last night, after a three hour baseball practice, my littlest boy and I entered that fine establishment to pick up his suit for the prom which is TONIGHT. If you can't tell from the photo, he was feelin' it and promptly declared himself "drippy".
May I have the definition, please?
From New Oxford American Dictionary:
Drippy: drip-py/adjective:
1. informal weak, ineffectual, or sloppily sentimental
2. tending to drip
From Urban Dictionary:
Drippy: drip-py/adjective:
1. Pertaining to something cool or awesome.
2. Having an abundance of swag.
Apparently, he'll take definition #2, Alex. Oh, to be 17 again.
I repeat: At 7:38 pm, we walked in the door. By 8:00 pm we were at Chili's sharing cheese fries and a skillet cookie.
Dear Sweet Moms of Girls: Can I have a moment of your time?
Who am I kidding? Of course, I can't. Because during prom season, you have no moments. I want you to know that there have been times in my life - very few, but there have been times - when I have lamented the lack of daughters in my home. Alas. prom season is not one of those times. Those of us who have boys who will likely be on the couch, unshowered, in a tshirt and sweats, watching Netflix approximately 20 minutes before they are to pick up their dates? We see you, ma'am. We pray that you feel the Lord's mighty strength as you walk out this calling on your life. Your crown awaits, sister. We'll be over here thinking of your journey and wondering if our kid will remember to brush his teeth. Godspeed, good and faithful servants.
Happy Weekend, Friends!
