5 Friday Favorites: July 8, 2022

It's time for my Friday link up with  A Little Bit of Everything and Momfessionals

On Fridays I share things that made me happy from the week - a photo, a song, a quote, a beauty product, a recipe, a pair of cute shoes, etc. If it's a product, sometimes it's something I actually own and sometimes something I just saw online that gave me a smile. Sometimes it's serious and sometimes it's silly. I suppose I believe that God is in the simple details of life and yes, I can even find Him in a tube of lipstick.

Hello from Atlanta, Georgia where I am simultaneously watching my son play baseball and wondering if it's possible to actually burst into flames since it's some where north of 732 degrees here. I suppose if it's time for me to meet Jesus it only makes sense that He'll come scoop me up from the bleachers. This is my last summer baseball tournament tour, so I'm trying to appreciate each second even if each second I feel like I'm sitting on the surface of the sun.

Here are some favorites from this week.

1. Elvis

This movie was amazing. Really long, but also worth the time. My parents were and are big Elvis fans, so I've always loved his music and have been fascinated by his life. This one is worth seeing in the theater. So, so good!

2. Target Women's Utility Cropped Jumpsuit

My quest continues to wear clothing this summer that barely touches my skin. This jumpsuit from Target is basically like wearing a comfortable potato sack and I'm here for it. It comes in four colors and it's taking all my will power not to buy one of each.

3. Trader Joe's Coconut Body Butter

In a tragic turn of events, I went to Trader Joe's last week to pick up some more of their Grapefruit Body Butter and found that it was gone. Apparently, it's seasonal and they will have it back next year. I bought this Coconut Body Butter instead. It's good. It might be really good, but it's mixed with my salty tears because nothing compares to the Grapefruit. (I might be a little dramatic.)

4. Handheld Misting Fan

I don't have this fan. I want this fan this week desperately. As I mentioned, it's stupid-hot here in Atlanta. I meant to order one of these before we left and I forgot. Now I am full of regret and a lot of sweat. I plan to make my way to the local Wal-Mart down the street from our hotel and see if I can find something similar.

5. Just Flashing Back

Nine years ago the kid played in his first summer baseball tournament. He played as an 8 year old on an 8/9 All Star team. What kind of fools enter their kids into a tournament across state lines for 8 and 9 year olds? Fools like us. And also some other fools who have been some of our best friends ever since.

I would leave his brother's 12 year old All Star game as soon as it ended and throw him in the backseat to travel back and forth to West Virginia. That summer he watched The Sandlot in the back of my Chevy Tahoe all the way there and all the way back. So I listened to the saga of Smalls, Squints, Benny the Jet and Wendy Peffercorn over and over and warned him he was not under any circumstances allowed to call anyone a "pee-drinking-crap-face".

Now he's 17. He can share the driving. He listens to God-knows-what in his air pods. His catcher's gear smells so bad it makes me want to puke. This summer will be hot as the dickens and busy and we'll be in hotel rooms and eat a lot of fast food that will not be good for us and the car rides will be so long and the traffic will get on my last nerve.

And I'll try with all my might to remember that these days are vanishing like mist right before my eyes. So I'll hold on as tight as I can and I'll look for the delight at every turn.

Play ball, little big man. I'll be watching until the last out of the last inning.
