Happy Friday, Friends.
On Fridays I share things that made me happy from the week - a photo, a song, a quote, a beauty product, a recipe, a pair of cute shoes, etc. If it's a product, sometimes it's something I actually own and sometimes something I just saw online that gave me a smile. Sometimes it's serious and sometimes it's silly. I suppose I believe that God is in the simple details of life and yes, I can even find Him in a tube of lipstick.
1. French Onion Beef Sliders
I heard Melanie and Sophie on the Big Boo Cast podcast about how amazing these sliders are. So I made them as a way to bribe Kyle to bring his friends over one Friday night before the first home baseball game of the season. Do not underestimate the power of food to make your kids stick around so that you can try to eavesdrop on their conversations while you stare intently at your laptop acting like you're super busy with your emails. The boys devoured all 24 sliders in no time and I felt like the champion of the world. These are really easy and great for a crowd.
2. Envy the Adventure OPI Nail Polish
I'm a sucker for St. Patrick's Day and I go all out with green tshirts, green pancakes, and green shamrock shaped raviolis every year. This year I found this polish at my nail salon and had my nails painted with it a few days before the big day, but I love how bright and Spring-like the color is, so I'm still wearing it two weeks later and it makes me so happy.
3. John Mayer sings How Great Thou Art
I have loved John Mayer since he first started out. I completely wore out my copy of his Any Given Thursday Live in Birmingham Concert CD/DVD. This little known song is my favorite John Mayer song of all time. He might be one of the greatest guitarists in the world and if you follow him on Instagram you know he's hilarious. I've seen this video of him singing How Great Thou Art floating around the internet all week and I've watched it so many times. Just beautiful.
4. A Spontaneous Costco Purchase
As you might have read here, the end of Kyle's basketball season caused me lots of feelings. I don't like endings especially when they signal the fact that one of my children is about to up and leave us to go to college 7 hours away. I tried really hard not to do any shopping during these past few weeks because sometimes I think a new top or pair of shoes will help me feel better and this is not recommended by most therapists or by my bank account. However, I was at Costco and I saw this White Peasant Top for only $13.99. What? The name is a misrepresentation. You won't be a peasant in this top because it is less than 15 whole dollars! Even my bank account couldn't be mad. It might fall apart the first time I wash it, but it did bring me a smile and is long enough to cover up the effect of the Cheetos I ate as my other form of therapy.
5. Invisibobble Rubber Hair Bands
I've been noticing that my hair is breaking off a lot. I think it's because I'm old and everything seems to be breaking, but my hair stylist noticed that the breakage seemed to be exactly where my hair elastics were holding up my ponytail. He suggested these rubber hair bands. I got the clear ones but they come in different colors. I was skeptical that they'd keep my pony tail tight enough when I run, but they work great and I think I am noticing less breakage. And yet, again, I recognize that a good hair stylist is one of God's greatest blessings. Amen.
Have a great weekend, Friends!
Bonus Favorite: Opening Day in the Sunshine!
We were so lucky to get to go the Washington Nationals game on one of the most beautiful Opening Days I can remember. Unfortunately, the Nats lost, but I didn't even care because sitting in the sunshine watching baseball on Opening Day is one of my most favorite things to do in the whole wide world. Later we had dinner in DC with some of my favorite people in the whole wide world. It was pretty perfect world. Welcome back, Baseball!
Have a great weekend, Friends!
