5 Friday Favorites: April 19, 2019

Happy Friday, Friends.

It's time for my Friday link up with A Little Bit of EverythingGrace and Love, and Momfessionals

On Fridays I share things that made me happy from the week - a photo, a song, a quote, a beauty product, a recipe, a pair of cute shoes, etc. If it's a product, sometimes it's something I actually own and sometimes something I just saw online that gave me a smile. Sometimes it's serious and sometimes it's silly. I suppose I believe that God is in the simple details of life and yes, I can even find Him in a tube of lipstick.

1. Thief by Third Day

I've mentioned Third Day a billion times here as it is one of my favorite bands of all time. Every single Good Friday, I make it a point to listen to this song. I am fascinated by the powerful lyrics that tell the story of Christ's death from the perspective of one of the men crucified next to Him. Here are the words from Luke's gospel:

"One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: "Aren't you the Christ? Save yourself and us!" But the other criminal rebuked him, "Don't you fear God," he said, "since you are under the same sentence? We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong." Then he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom." Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise."

Every time I listen I am reminded that I am the Thief who does not deserve this Messiah and yet who is welcomed by Him into His kingdom with one statement, one last breath, and a sacrifice I will never ever fully comprehend. It makes me bawl my eyes out.

2. The University of Tennessee

Kyle has decided to attend The University of Tennessee this fall, so we spent the first four days of our Spring Break in the wonderful city of Knoxville. Although, I could not stop joking about the fact that they had their shade of orange all wrong (Hook Em Horns), we all could not have loved it more.

We are so blessed that Steve's aunt and uncle and his cousin and family live in Knoxville which makes me feel a whole lot better about sending my boy so far away. They were so gracious to host us in their beautiful home and we had a blast. As a bonus, we also fell in love with their sweet dog Lily who we've decided is a professional model. As soon as the camera comes out she joins in the group shot like a pro. :-)

One of the best parts of Knoxville were all the amazing restaurants. We intend to become experts in this area and Market Square helped out a lot. We loved Tupelo Honey and Myrtle's Chicken and Beer where we did our best to get a taste of the South by eating our share of biscuits and gravy and fried chicken. To be honest I'm a pretty easy sell. All you gotta do is put my drink in a mason jar, and I AM IN.

We could not be prouder and more excited for Kyle and his future at the University of Tennessee. It's coming quicker than I wanted, but I'm so grateful for the opportunity the Lord is giving him. And also, for the biscuits. ;-)

3. Personalized Cups from Two Funny Girls

I had seen this company mentioned on The Big Mama Blog many years ago and have ordered from them before, so I decided to order some styrofoam cups as a gift for our amazing hosts this past weekend. There are a lot of different patterns and colors to choose from and I highly recommend them if you're looking for a fun hostess or house warming gift.

4. Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer

April can be disturbing month because as it starts to get sunny and warm, it becomes startling when I look in the mirror and find that despite the spring, I still look like a snowman. Lucky for me, Ulta was having a great sale a few weeks ago, so I picked up this Too Faced Chocolate Soleil bronzer for half price. Unfortunately, the sale is not happening now, but I found it here for less and if you look around you might get lucky. Now, I will tell you that this stuff does smell very much like actual chocolate. I haven't quite decided if that is super awesome or kinda gross, but I do like the way it goes on and I feel a lot less like Frosty these days.

5. My Dad's Birthday

Today is my dad's birthday and he is definitely not only one of my favorite things from this week, but one of my favorites of all time. If you know my dad you know he is funny and smart and kind and also, as I wrote about here, the strongest man in the whole wide world. I love you, Dad. Happy Day!

I hope you all have a lovely Easter weekend. It's Friday now, but Sunday's coming. Thank you, Lord.
