5 Friday Favorites: October 11, 2019

Happy Friday, Friends.

It's time for my Friday link up with A Little Bit of EverythingGrace and Love, and Momfessionals

On Fridays I share things that made me happy from the week - a photo, a song, a quote or Bible verse, a beauty product, a recipe, a pair of cute shoes, etc. If it's a product, sometimes it's something I actually own and sometimes something I just saw online that gave me a smile. Sometimes it's serious and sometimes it's silly. I suppose I believe that God is in the simple details of life and yes, I can even find Him in a tube of lipstick.

1. Lennox Halter/Texas Longhorns Official Top from Anthropologie

We are on our way to Knoxville for Kyle's Fraternity's Parents Weekend today where we'll attend the football game between the University of Tennessee and Mississippi State tomorrow. At the same exact time, the Texas Longhorns will be taking on Oklahoma in the Red River Showdown/Shootout/Rivalry/3-hour-possible-mental-breakdown-for-me which is the biggest game of the year for my Longhorn brothers and sisters. So even though Kyle said I will be ridiculed for cheering for what the kids in Knoxville refer to as "the other UT", I will not be shaken. I know that in order to honor my team, I have to be darn sure to be wearing the correct shade of orange this weekend when I walk into Neyland Stadium with my phone app tuned to the Texas game. Thank goodness I found this top at Anthropologie and although it is labeled as "deep gold", it is very clearly burnt orange and designed specifically for my people. I can't wait to wear it when we shock the college football world and beat the heck out of the Sooners. From my typing fingers to God's ears. Let it be so, Lord. Hook Em Horns.

2. Shepherd by Crowder

We're studying the "I am" statements of Jesus in my weekly morning Bible study using this book. This week we focused on John 10:1-17 where Jesus says, "I am the Good Shepherd. I know my sheep and my sheep know me." We had a great discussion about the ways God is invested in us and protects us, believes in us, and restores who we really are. It led me to search for songs about the Good Shepherd and I found this one by Crowder. Oh my word, what a beautiful song.

3. Kendra Scott Elle Drop Earrings

It seems that many of my favorite things this week are trending toward a burnt orange color scheme, since I cannot stop thinking about the big Texas/OU game this weekend. I've been eyeing these earrings from Kendra Scott for a really long time because I feel like they just might be one way I can contribute to my team's wins. Then I saw this segment on The Today Show about Kendra Scott and found out she donated $1 million dollars to my very own University to start the Women's Entrepreneurial Leadership Institute. WHAT?! I am now as huge fan of her and her company as I am of her beautiful jewelry. These drop earrings are my favorite. You can choose from four different metals and then choose what color stone you want. (The Longhorn one is called goldstone, but they even have red for the dumb ol' Sooner fans.) Now even if my wearing them doesn't bring the Longhorns a victory this weekend, at least my loser tears will stream down my face onto my fabulous earrings. That is what I call a Win/Win situation.

4. The Dearly Beloved

I finally finished City of Girls (meh.) and quickly started The Dearly Beloved. It was recommended not only by my mom, but also by Jenna Bush Hager, Knox McCoy, and my pastor. Those are some pretty reliable sources. So far it is a fantastic look at two pastors and their wives ministering in the same church. Each is on different journeys of faith, some of whome are grappling with whether or not God is real. I've highlighted so many passages in this book including this:

"The pain he felt, now, he realized came from forbidding himself to believe it, this answer to a question he did not think he had asked, this confidence growing in him - both secret and certain. God existed; God was real. He could not explain this new conclusion, except to say that when he put it away, it was agony, and when he brought it out, it was the deepest, most beautiful relief he had ever known."

I have a feeling there will be more to highlight here. This is a very well-written, very thoughtful fiction book that I think will interest not only believers, but those who have big questions about faith as well.

5. Drew's Back

Our long national nightmare three week hiatus from baseball is over as Drew's broken thumb appears to have healed pretty quickly. He had to sit out of three tournaments and a number of weekday games and I missed watching him play so much. This week he was finally able to put the gear back on and was lucky enough to have one of his very favorite pitchers and best friends guest play for his team. He was so happy to get to catch him. It was great fun to see them reunited and their smiles lit up the ballpark.

Have I mentioned that I love to watch them play?

I sure do.

Happy Friday, Friends. Enjoy your weekend and GO HORNS.
