5 Friday Favorites: May 8, 2020





It's time for my Friday link up with A Little Bit of Everything and Momfessionals

On Fridays I share things that made me happy from the week - a photo, a song, a quote or Bible verse, a beauty product, a recipe, a pair of cute shoes, etc. If it's a product, sometimes it's something I actually own and sometimes something I just saw online that gave me a smile. Sometimes it's serious and sometimes it's silly. I suppose I believe that God is in the simple details of life and yes, I can even find Him in a tube of lipstick.

We're still all stuck inside. I'm over it. You're over it. E'rybody's over it. I want to make a joke about it or tell you how great I am at aggressively hunting for joy every day. Some days I am. Other days, I'm eating Cheetos and drinking wine at 5:02 pm and telling my people that I will see them tomorrow because I need to go upstairs and watch Instagram stories in the bathtub.

It's totally fine. 

Here's some stuff I found on my phone while in the bathtub at 5:15 pm on a Wednesday.



1. Leslie Jordan on Instagram

I just started following Leslie Jordan on Instagram. You might remember him if you were a Will and Grace fan. He's hysterical and adorable and is, in my mind, one of the heroes of this quarantine. Also, if you have little ears around or it bothers you at all, be aware that he can tend to have a potty mouth, so ear buds only. My favorite was when he did an exercise routine twirling a back-scratcher like a baton. The man is a delight machine.  

2. Quarantine Footwear

I think it's well-established that the pants options around here for the past two months have been limited to leggings and joggers. There isn't much variety in the shoe department either. It's either no shoes or running shoes. I don't have these, but I noticed that this is a crazy good price for Nikes. There are a bunch of cute colors and all are less than $60.00.

These Nike Epic Flyknit 2 are actually my favorite running shoes. I also have them in this color. They're not as inexpensive as the others, but these are still great prices for these shoes.





More importantly though, these are my favorite socks in the whole wide world. I can't live without these socks. These don't make my feet sweat. They are soft and comfortable. They never slip or bunch up. There is no other sock in all the world that compares to these.

Let us pause here to acknowledge that I have just written way too many words about socks and that is both sad and a little bit creepy.


3. Sausage, Potatoes, & Veggies 
Sheet Tray Supper

Perhaps like me, dear reader, you've spent more time in the kitchen than you ever dreamed you would since this pandemic started. Perhaps, your heart starts to beat really hard at about 5:00 pm and you think to yourself, "How long, O Lord? How long will I stare into this fridge eating cheese and pondering what to cook for these people who never stop eating?" 

The Lord answered me this week with this super easy recipe from mixandmatchmama.com. My people loved it and it was simple to put together and the easiest clean up ever. Also, it wasn't tacos.


4. Measuring Cups/Spoons Set


Speaking of all the cooking, I somehow lost my set of measuring spoons during this whole thing. I have asked all the members of my household who stole my tablespoons and teaspoons countless times and this is what I get in response every time:


In their defense, I suppose that 15, 19, and 21 year old boys are generally not in the market for a set of measuring spoons. Anyway, I found this set of pretty gold cups and spoons and I think they're going to make me happy. 

But not as happy as my socks. Let's not get crazy. 


5.  A Poem I Needed Right When I Needed It

I've done two different devotional studies by Erin Moon in the last two years and she is one of my favorite follows on Instagram.  The other day when I was having a moment in the bathtub with the Cheetos, I happened to read this poem she posted on her Instagram page. Maybe you need it as well.

Above all, trust in the slow work of God.
We are quite naturally impatient in everything
to reach the end without delay.
We should like to skip the intermediate stages.
We are impatient of being on the way to something unknown, something new.
And yet it is the law of all progress 
that it is made by passing through some stages of instability -
and that it may take a very long time.
And so I think it is with you.
Your ideas mature gradually - let them grow, let them shape themselves, without undue haste.
Don't try to force them on, as though you could be today what time (that is to say, grace and circumstances acting on your own good will) will make you tomorrow.
Only God could say what this new spirit 
gradually forming within you will be.
Give Our Lord the benefit of believing that His hand is leading you, 
and accept the anxiety of feeling yourself in suspense and incomplete.

6. BONUS FAVORITE: MY MOM


This is my mom. I wrote a lot of words about her here. I love her and I miss her and she's the best person I know: the strongest, the most compassionate, the most selfless, the most fun. And she's far away from me. And I'm sad. 

Happy Mother's Day, Friends. I know we all feel like we're doing it wrong, especially right now. Here are the facts. We're not doing it wrong because exactly no one in the whole world knows how to do it right. We're just doing it. Keep doing it.

I enjoyed yours sense of humor. I'm currently in TX (a recent transplant) and am so happy we are coming out of lockdown. I've had two steak knives gone missing--nobody is 'fessing up! Happy Mother's Day!
