On Fridays I share things that made me happy from the week - a photo, a song, a quote, a beauty product, a recipe, a pair of cute shoes, etc. If it's a product, sometimes it's something I actually own and sometimes something I just saw online that gave me a smile. Sometimes it's serious and sometimes it's silly. I suppose I believe that God is in the simple details of life and yes, I can even find Him in a tube of lipstick.
Happy Friday, I think. I'm trying. It didn't start off so well this morning.
Basically, I turned on the Today Show and it was only minutes before I yelled - out loud - in my kitchen - by my own self: "HEY, SAVANNAH. MAYBE BACK OFF A BIT, SISTER. CAN I JUST TAKE ONE SIP OF MY COFFEE BEFORE YOU START FREAKING ME OUT?"
I mean no disrespect. It's not Savannah's fault that the world is on fire. I'm just wondering if maybe the people on tv are ever going stop googling "Synonym for absolute crapshow". Have we come to end of the thesaurus yet? Or do we have any more words we can announce on the news that can make one feel like she's being poked in the eye with a fork every time she turns on the tv?
Anyway, how's it going with you guys this morning because:
Here's what's really happening. We canceled our tickets to Texas for Thanksgiving. I haven't seen my parents or my sister or my brother or their kids in a shamefully long time. I had plans to see two of my best girls from college.
And it's all disappeared into the virus-filled air. So I yelled at Savannah Guthrie who is likely a very lovely person. My dog seemed embarrassed for me.
On the bright side, my college boys are coming home this weekend. I have a whole bunch of stretchy pants, some really good Thanksgiving recipes, and not only a Netflix subscription, but also an Amazon Prime and a Hulu subscription. I mean, would you look at the Lord? Three streaming services? My cup overflows.
Here's a look at some favorite things that I discovered this week that I'll be enjoying next week, too.
1. Pumpkin Spice Martini
My beloved friend, Maria, loves all things pumpkin spice to a point that borders on alarming. Her friends make fun of her, but we are so grateful when her obsession brings us something like this amazing Pumpkin Spice Martini that she served us recently.
Vanilla Vodka
Rum-Chata
Cream
Cinnamon-Sugar
1. Mix first four ingredients in equal parts in martini shaker.
2. Put cinnamon-sugar on the rim of martini glass.
3. Pour martini into glass.
4. Sprinkle with a bit more cinnamon-sugar.
5. Be thankful that Maria is a weirdo about all the pumpkin spice stuff.
2. Madden Girl Della Boot
I realized I had a bazillion reward points at DSW for some reason this week, so I ended up being able to get these great boots for practically zero dollars. I love the buckle, the laces, and the heel height. Bonus: On the opposite side there is a zipper which makes them super easy to get on. This is crucial because the other day I tried to put on a pair of boots and the whole process turned out to be equal parts dangerous and humiliating. All I'm saying is that when you almost have a 911 situation just trying to stick your foot in a boot, you appreciate a side zipper.
3. Trader Joe's Snacks
While I'm watching football and binging The Crown this week (i.e. not watching the news) I'm going to need some snacks. Trader Joe's continues to kill it in the snacks department. This Toasted Coconut Granola Bark is so good. If you don't have a Trader Joe's you can get it at Amazon here.
I don't understand why cauliflower is trying to take over the world, but it is and I'm fine about it. These Cauliflower Crisps are a darn good cracker. (PS Is there any more evidence that I'm really reaching to find some light in the darkness of 2020 than the fact that I just wrote the phrase "darn good cracker"? Lord help us.) \
Also, I've mentioned this before. Do not sleep on these Everything but the Bagel nuts. You're going to want to hide them from your people. They are delicious.
4. More Joggers Because What Else Do You Need to Wear
A good friend of mine sent me a picture of these camo joggers this week because she knows I'm a fan of the most trendy and stylish loungewear of the season. Either that or she knows that I have a lot of Trader Joe's snacks in my pantry. I have not ordered these, but goodness, gracious are they cute. They come in a ton of different camo color combinations.
5. Pumpkin Trifle
Now that we have yet another stretchy pant option, shall we just keep eating? Let's.
I made this pumpkin trifle in the picture last week. It was easy, festive, and a pretty big hit with my people. I cannot for the life of me find the website where I got the recipe. This one looks similar, but there are a zillion to choose from on Google. Get yourself a trifle bowl. Make the trifle. Put on your camo joggers. Be the champion of Thanksgiving. The end.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend full of rest and something pumpkin-y and no yelling at tv newscasters. Thank you for reading here each week. I'm very grateful for this space and for you. Happy Thanksgiving, Friends.

I was trying to convince my baker to make a trifle for Thanksgiving but he really wants to make jam tarts and since I don't feel like baking at all I'm saving the trifle idea for another day when I do. LOL. Yours looks delicious.
