5 Friday Favorites: November 13, 2020

It's time for my Friday link up with A Little Bit of Everything and Momfessionals

On Fridays I share things that made me happy from the week - a photo, a song, a quote, a beauty product, a recipe, a pair of cute shoes, etc. If it's a product, sometimes it's something I actually own and sometimes something I just saw online that gave me a smile. Sometimes it's serious and sometimes it's silly. I suppose I believe that God is in the simple details of life and yes, I can even find Him in a tube of lipstick.

Happy Friday, Friends! I missed last week's 5 Friday Favorites because I've been working on some other writing projects, but I'm back this week with some of my favorite things. It was a busy, full, happy week which included a not-so-little boy turning 16 years old and some of the most beautiful weather of all time. FYI: The state of Virginia is the undisputed champion of Fall.

Here are some things that made me happy this week.

1. Orolay Thickened Down Jacket

I have mentioned this Orolay coat before, but I want to mention it again because it is hands down one of the best purchases I've ever made. It will start turning cold again this weekend here and because of this dumb ol' virus still hanging around we're going to need to be outside more often than not if we want to see our people. This would make a great Christmas gift for a friend, mom, sister, or for your own self. There are so many colors to choose from. I love these metallic colors for $10 off. AND they even have little kids sizes! I know the model in the photo looks miserable for some reason, but maybe she's smiling on the inside? Here's me as warm and happy as can be on the lake when it's way too cold for reasonable people to be out on a boat on a lake. It's like I have no idea it's November. Go get it. You won't regret it.

2. Mrs. America

Steve and I started watching this series on Hulu this week. It a 9 episode series that follows the movement to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment in the 70s and the backlash from conservative activist Phyllis Schlafly. Cate Blanchett plays Schlafly. By the way, is there anyone better than Cate Blanchett? I think not. The rest of the cast is amazing as well. This is a period of history that I honestly don't know much about so it's been really interesting. Bonus: the music, the clothes and the sets from the 70s are so great. I'm loving it.

3. Aerie Real Me High Waist Crossover Leggings

I'm back to switching between joggers, leggings, and pjs over here because spending most of your days writing and/or making sandwiches for your 16 year old who is distance learning/constantly eating turns out to be a very glamorous and fancy gig. These leggings from Aerie are hands down the softest, most comfortable leggings ever. They aren't too spandex-y (if that's a word and I think it is) so they don't cut off your circulation, but they still keep their shape really well. They're 25% off today!

4. Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Bars

In an attempt to be "Thanksgiving-y" (another word I made up), I made these Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Bars from Mix and Match Mama yesterday. Drew declared them "Okay, but kinda weird." Steve and I ate them with no concerns at all. Maybe it was the wine we had with them?

5. Sweet 16

My littlest man turned 16 on a day that was perfect in every way. He had a baseball game out in Front Royal, Virginia where the Lord decided to be a big ol' show off - from the blinding sunshine to the beautiful mountains beyond the outfield to the sparkling creek that ran beside the ballpark.

It was a brightest, happiest day which seemed pretty appropriate because this kid o' mine is one bright, happy boy. Unfortunately, 2020 has sucked so much of bright and happy out of all of us including our teens. That's why I was so grateful for the gift of an ordinary day to celebrate an extraordinary kid.

Hope you find some bright and happy this weekend, Friends!
