5 Friday Favorites: March 19, 2021

It's time for my Friday link up with A Little Bit of Everything and Momfessionals

On Fridays I share things that made me happy from the week - a photo, a song, a quote, a beauty product, a recipe, a pair of cute shoes, etc. If it's a product, sometimes it's something I actually own and sometimes something I just saw online that gave me a smile. Sometimes it's serious and sometimes it's silly. I suppose I believe that God is in the simple details of life and yes, I can even find Him
 in a tube of lipstick.

Happy Friday, Friends! It's been a great week here. We had some beautiful baseball weather this weekend where I got to watch Drew's team play (and win!). We watched the Longhorns win the Big 12 Championship on Saturday for the first time in the Texas basketball program's history which gave me an amount of joy and pride that bordered on manic and unreasonable, as you might imagine. After much hoping and praying, we found out that Joe's graduation from Penn State in May will officially be an in-person event and my husband and I will be able to attend. To top it off we celebrated St. Patrick's Day with green pancakes for breakfast for Drew, a trip to the nail salon for green polished toes and fingers for me, and Grasshopper pie for dessert Wednesday night for all of us (minus the two college boys and plus one doggie who skipped the pie, but got to sit at the table against my wishes.)

It was one of those weeks where I found that I didn't have to look too hard to see God moving and showing up for me. He was there in the smallest, sweetest details as well as in my biggest, most important concerns.

Here are some of those smallest, sweetest details that made me smile this week.

1. Revolution Highlighter Reloaded

I was with my sister last week and we shared all manner of make-up and skincare thoughts. One of the products she shared with me that I really love is this Revolution Reloaded Highlighter that I got for only $7 at Target. It comes in three colors and I got it in Dare to Divulge which is obviously self-explanatory. ;-) I didn't really even know how to use highlighter. If you don't have a sister to show you how, I found a video here. Frankly, I'm sorry you can't learn from my sister because she is infinitely less annoying that the gal on the video, but let's all just be thankful for the plethora of information available to us in the year of our Lord 2021 via the wonder of the internet.

The key is to barely use any of the product. That way it gives your face a glowy, dewy look. If you use too much, you'll have more of a sweaty, shiny, I-just-watched-a-9-inning-baseball-game-in-August look. If you do it right, you, like me, can look exactly like JLo.

That's a blatant lie. I do not look like JLo. At all. But I still like the highlighter.

2. This Tender Land by William Kent Krueger

I finished The Fortunate Ones last week and I highly, highly recommend it. It was a great book and I'm thinking it would make a good movie, too. My friend, Cheryl, recommended the book, This Tender Land, to me a few weeks ago and said that she was sad when it was over. I can see why. I am only about a quarter of the way into it and it is excellent. It follows the story of four orphans who travel the Mississippi River together during the Great Depression.

3. ALL THE BASKETBALL IN ALL THE FORMS ALL THE TIME

It's all basketball, all the time around here. March Madness starts this weekend and it is pretty much the only thing my family will talk about for the next two weeks. There will be multiple tvs set up and there will be very lengthy text chains full of smack talk and predictions and all manner of GIFs.

The Texas Longhorns have by far the best chance to make a run for the Final Four that they've had in years. Needless to say, I AM BESIDE MYSELF ABOUT IT.  I even wondered if I should fill out a bracket this year because it could potentially take my focus off my own team and I feel certain that the guys need me to be completely locked in. Please enjoy this live look at my guys reacting to the ways I will try to manage the implications of where I sit, what I wear, and basically every tiny move I make on the team's success in the next 14 days.

It's going to be a long couple of weeks.

Now, if the Horns lose early due to some mistake I make in my wardrobe choices or seating arrangements, I will at least have my very new favorite show to watch, Last Chance U Basketball on Netflix.

I started watching it this week at the insistence of my son, Joe, since he and I watched all the football seasons. I already love all the players and the coaches and have found myself cheering for them as if they are playing in a live game. If you love basketball and stories of grit, determination, and redemption, this will totally be up your alley.

4. Amazon Swimsuit and Sarong

We've got a Spring Break trip to Florida coming up which brings equal parts excitement for warm weather and terror because of swimsuit-phobia. However, I'm feeling a little less anxious because I ordered this really cute swimsuit from Amazon and I actually really like it. I got it in black, but it comes in lots of solid colors and floral patterns.

I also ordered this sarong as a cover-up. It is really versatile and the fabric is thin and lightweight. It comes in a ton of colors and is less than $20.

5. Tyler Glamorous Wash Diva Laundry Detergent

I have definitely saved the best for last. I have been hearing about Tyler Glamorous Wash Diva Laundry Detergent from various Instagram influencers for awhile now. However, I thought spending $25.00 on laundry detergent was straight-up stupid. Then when I was in Texas a couple of weeks ago I saw it displayed at a boutique that offered this itty bitty bottle for $7.95. I used it to wash my towels this week and now I want to ration the remaining ounces as if it is the last diet Coke on the planet.

Now hear me on this. Do I  still think it's outrageous to spend over $20.00 on a bottle of laundry detergent? Perhaps I do. I, however, am a flawed human being who sometimes makes outrageously stupid choices in order to counteract the smell of dog, teenagers, and baseball cleats in my house. I cannot adequately express how amazing this scent is. My laundry room smells amazing. My towels smell amazing. I can even smell them before I come in the bathroom or when I open my linen closet. I will very likely not use this for my guys' laundry, but will keep it for my sheets, towels, and my own pajamas.

All that to say, this may be not only my favorite thing from this week, but perhaps my favorite find of 2021. Have you ever wondered what heaven smells like? I'm not sure I have until this week, but I won't be a bit surprised when the Lord takes me home to find that eternity smells exactly like the inside of a bottle of $25 detergent that you can buy on Amazon.

That's it for today, Friends! Have a great weekend!
