5 Friday Favorites: May 28, 2021

It's time for my Friday link up with A Little Bit of Everything and Momfessionals

On Fridays I share things that made me happy from the week - a photo, a song, a quote, a beauty product, a recipe, a pair of cute shoes, etc. If it's a product, sometimes it's something I actually own and sometimes something I just saw online that gave me a smile. Sometimes it's serious and sometimes it's silly. I suppose I believe that God is in the simple details of life and yes, I can even find Him
 in a tube of lipstick.

Hello, Friends. I hope you've had a lovely week and that you're looking forward to a three day weekend and that we will all take time to remember those who have served and given their lives for our freedom. My oldest is leaving for Maine this weekend to start his adult life, so I've gotta hustle because even those he's 22 years old, I am acting as if I am packing him for summer camp. I'm wondering if I should put some self-addressed stamped envelopes in his luggage so that he'll remember to write and tell me about all the new friends he's made and whether or not he likes the food. I think I will. Here are some favorite things I found this week that do not include boys leaving their moms. Have a happy weekend.

1. Summer Short "Jogger" Set

During fall and winter of the pandemic I think I purchased three different "jogger sets" which were basically my way to wear pajamas outside of the home while pretending they were real clothes. This week I found the summer-time equivalent when I stumbled on all these different choices of "Short Sets". If you don't want to think of these as pjs, just think of them as a romper without the problematic restroom situation that a romper presents. This 2 Piece Sousuoty short set looks really comfy and comes in some pretty solids and some tie-dye patterns.

I ordered this set with the v-neck top in black, but I won't get it until mid-June. It comes in a lot of colors and depending on which one you choose, you could potentially get it quicker

 .

I think I might be too old for this one (or maybe I'm too old for all of them? It's a valid question.), but I like this tie-dye set  as well.

2. Things that I Need Now that I'm Too Old for A lot of Other Things

First of all, I must apologize for assaulting you, dear reader, with the word "moist" in large yellow letters in this picture because I understand that it is a word that is universally detested. I'm terribly sorry. Still, I would be remiss if I didn't include this ThermalOn Microwaveable Neck Wrap in my favorites this week. This is the situation I find myself in lately:

Every darn morning. This neck wrap has become my most worn accessory of 2021. It's incredible because I can use it for my shoulders, my neck, and my lower back which are the parts of my body that seem to alternate the days they decide to hate me. I put this thing in the microwave for one minute and then I put it on whatever is ailing me. It has a little tie so that I can secure it around my neck or shoulders or waist. I suppose you don't have to use the tie. I'm just saying that based on the reaction I get from my kids when I wear this, I think you'd be missing out on looking VERY cool if you don't tie it. Now please excuse me while I go learn how to play canasta.

3. Queen Bee Body Spray

It seems like maybe summer has arrived in Northern Virginia. It was really hot and sticky this week. I don't love wearing a heavy perfume in the summer, so I picked up this Good Chemistry Body Spray at Target. I love it for spritzing on a few times a day when you feel like you need it. I got the Queen Bee scent which is really feminine and light, but it comes in other scents as well. I also noticed it at CVS.

4. The Daily Tay on Instagram

I do not know how I found this gal on Instagram, but she is hilarious. If you are looking for someone who is real and funny and really funny to just give you a giggle every once in awhile as opposed to someone who makes you feel bad about how your pillows are arranged on your sofa, I highly recommend Taylor Wolfe.

PS I realize that it is my problem and only my problem if I feel bad about my pillows. Some days I am more mature and grounded than others.

5. Celebrating the Success of Others

Well, we had a shortened season, but we did have a baseball season. We only have three more games and I have loved every second of it - especially since we were so worried it would be taken away from us again. One of my favorite things about baseball or really any team sport is to watch the way kids support each other. As competitive as baseball is in these parts, it can become pretty serious, but as far as I can tell these kids have cornered the market on fun and joy and celebrating the fire out of every little thing. They're better at it than the grown-ups.

My favorite moments this year did not include a certain score in game or a specific play by my own son. The very best moments were watching the boys cheer for each other. Last week two of my son's best friends hit their first home-runs in high school.

When those kids hit the ball over the fence the dugout of boys and the families in the stands freaked the freak out as if we had just won the World Series. And my own kid could not have been more excited. I was able to see his reaction in a video (very understandably chaotic video taken by the hitter's thrilled mama) because he was up to bat next.

But he wasn't the only one. The entire team went berserk. Goodness gracious, I loved watching it. Even in a fuzzy, chaotic video, the best part of seeing one person succeed is watching the way a whole mess of people lose their ever-lovin' minds over it. This is perhaps at the top of the list of reasons why I'll never regret all the time we dedicated to having our kids in team sports. Those years have taught my kid over and over again that it isn't all about him. And it gives him a chance to celebrate and take joy in someone else's achievements.

Even the umpire got in on the joy. Sweet mercy, do I love baseball . . . and baseball players.

Have a blessed weekend, Friends! Go celebrate some people.
