It's time for my Friday link up with A Little Bit of Everything and Momfessionals.
On Fridays I share things that made me happy from the week - a photo, a song, a quote, a beauty product, a recipe, a pair of cute shoes, etc. If it's a product, sometimes it's something I actually own and sometimes something I just saw online that gave me a smile. Sometimes it's serious and sometimes it's silly. I suppose I believe that God is in the simple details of life and yes, I can even find Him in a tube of lipstick.
Good morning, Friends. I had a really fun week. It was Joe's 23rd birthday, so I hopped in my car and drove to Charlotte, North Carolina to visit him. Then I decided that I wanted to see Kyle, so I drove from Charlotte to Knoxville and spent some time with him, too. It's always a blessing to get eyes on the ones that are away, right? It's also pretty cool when you realize that on top of loving the heck out of your kids, you actually really like them, too. Here are some other favorites from this week.
1. The Way Down: God, Greed, and the Culture of Gwen Shamblin on HBO Max
Obviously, the main reason to watch this documentary is Gwen Shamblin's hair. It should be listed all by itself in the credits. What in the actual world? This story about the leader of an evangelical church in Nashville who created a dieting plan for her church members and was a straight up weirdo is fascinating, disturbing, and all kinds of messed up. I spent my entire Sunday afternoon watching it. Goodness gracious.
2. Vegamour Hair Gro Serum
Speaking of hair, I have mentioned my hair woes here a lot lately. It is getting old, I know, but so am I, so it is what it is. I recently purchased this Vegamour Gro Hair Serum which has pretty good reviews. Also, at least one beauty blogger I follow says it's giving her great results. I guess I can't officially call it a favorite yet because I've only been using it for a week, but my hope and optimism for renewed hair glory is strong right now. I wonder if Gwen Shamblin used this stuff?
3. In God We Lust Podcast
From Gwen to Jerry Falwell, Jr. Are we seeing a pattern here? This six episode podcast on the scandal that led to the ousting of Liberty University's Jerry Falwell, Jr. is also fascinating, disturbing, and all kinds of messed up. Hypocrisy, shady real estate deals, and a pool boy. What else could keep me focused on a six hour road trip to Charlotte? I will say that the two hosts got on my last nerve. They forced some really bad jokes and at times were pretty snarky about people of faith. In the end, I think they did an okay job of separating Liberty's students from the leadership, but their overall tone about believers annoyed me at times.
4. Maybelline Superstay Ink Crayon Lipstick
This is a really great long-lasting lip stick that's pretty cheap and isn't as drying as some other longwear lipsticks are. There are a lot of great colors. 5 stars from me.
5. Tupelo Honey
Remember how a few weeks ago, I said I was trying to cut down on grains, dairy, and sugar? Well, this is how that's going. I ate at Tupelo Honey twice in 24 hours. Once in Charlotte and once in Knoxville. I'm not proud, but I'm also not sorry. If you want to eat the best fried chicken, biscuits, and gravy that you've ever had in your life, find a Tupelo Honey. They seem to be in a lot of towns, but if there isn't one near you, no worries. I'm certain there are numerous locations in heaven as well. Some day.
Bonus Favorite: These Kids o' Mine
They're always my favorite - well, not always - that is a lie. But, this week I got to see all three of them and it was definitely my favorite. They're doing things like Homecoming and job fairs and managing their money and one of them can even legally drink cocktails with me. It's weird and wonderful and it was the greatest part of the week. So, please admire these photos of my children and a sweet girl we've gotten to know lately (who chats and chats and chats with me - YAY!). Proceed with the admiration of the gentlemen I birthed. Go on now - get to it. ;-)
Have a great weekend, friends.

That sounds like an interesting documentary. Going to add it to my list of shows to watch.
