On Fridays I share things that made me happy from the week - a photo, a song, a quote, a beauty product, a recipe, a pair of cute shoes, etc. If it's a product, sometimes it's something I actually own and sometimes something I just saw online that gave me a smile. Sometimes it's serious and sometimes it's silly. I suppose I believe that God is in the simple details of life and yes, I can even find Him in a tube of lipstick.
Hello, Friends.
Happy Friday! I'm so excited for the weekend because early November is when Virginia is a big ol' show-off. The trees are absolutely stunning around here, so if you live in the area I hope you get a chance to go outside this weekend. We had a busy, but fun week here which started off with Drew's birthday on Monday, a HUGE Texas Longhorns Basketball win on Tuesday night (the football game Saturday is that which shall not be named), lots of dog walks and runs and lots of writing and working on the porch in this ridiculously beautiful weather. If you don't live in my area, I hope it was pretty where you are and if you ever are planning a visit to the Washington, DC area, my vote is come in late October - early November. You're welcome.
Now, here are some other favorites from the week.
1. Elixir Square Wine Glasses
My wine glasses are all mismatched and a big mess. So I'm thinking of ordering these Square Wine Glasses which are yet another idea I got from the BigBooCast. ! I think these are so cool and different. Also, they'd make a great gift for Christmas this year.
2. Fish Hippie Clothing for Men
We discovered Fish Hippie at one of our favorite shops in Knoxville, Tennessee. This is a great line of casual clothes for the men in your life. Fish Hippie has officially become my go-to for shopping for my boys and husband. Their products have a lake/beach vibe that my people love. We got Drew this Carolina blue Oversight Long-sleeve Tee for his birthday which is the most perfect color for him. There are tons of graphic tees to choose from in lots of colors.
He also picked out this trucker hat. He only has 734 hats, so he really needed this one. There's a huge selection of hats for guys.
Steve bought this Truxton Flannel shirt the last time we were in Knoxville and wears it all the time.
3. The Blessing featuring Kari Jobe & Cody Carnes
I heard this song a few months ago during a pretty anxiety-filled season when I was praying for guidance or healing or peace or ALL OF IT for just about every darn person in my family. Especially for those of us who are stuck in the "middle place" that Kelly Corrigan wrote so well about, it is so comforting to know that the Lord has looked out and will look out for every single generation of our family - the ones who have gone before us and the ones to come. Gosh I love this song, but it requires a full box of tissues to get through for me. Also, it's 11 minutes long - so seriously, the whole darn box.
4. Oversized Ribbed Knit Sweater
Since it's been getting colder, especially at night, I've been digging out a lot of sweatshirts. This oversized sweater is simple and casual, but the ribbed knit fabric, wide crew neckline, and side slit makes it a level-up from a basic sweatshirt. It also is a made of vicose which is a fabric that doesn't end up making me look like I have pink eye. I find this to be a huge bonus. I love this slate blue color, but it comes in tons of other colors. I think it would make a great gift.
5. Seventeen
This guy turned 17 on Monday. My littlest one, my most active one, the one who screamed the loudest and left me exhausted. Also the one who loves the hardest, cheers the loudest for his friends, and gets the angriest when the Texas Longhorns lose. (This, as you might imagine, is sayin' somethin'. Also apple and tree, if you will.)
When this little blog was very, very young and I had more time to write here, I wrote about him on his 8th birthday telling the story of the day he arrived to finish off our family. I didn't know who he would become at 17. I don't know who he'll become at 25 or 35. I've learned so much since the day I wrote this. One lesson is that we have no guarantees for tomorrow, but I am praying that God sees fit to allow me to keep following this force of fire into the mystery. It sure has been fun so far.
That's it for today. I hope you have a lovely, fun weekend!
