5 Friday Favorites: March 25, 2022

It's time for my Friday link up with  A Little Bit of Everything and Momfessionals

On Fridays I share things that made me happy from the week - a photo, a song, a quote, a beauty product, a recipe, a pair of cute shoes, etc. If it's a product, sometimes it's something I actually own and sometimes something I just saw online that gave me a smile. Sometimes it's serious and sometimes it's silly. I suppose I believe that God is in the simple details of life and yes, I can even find Him in a tube of lipstick.

Happy Friday, Friends! My goodness this week flew by. We were super busy with lots of baseball, some March Madness Happiness followed very quickly by some March Madness Sadness and some general busy-ness that comes with Spring. Here are some of my favorite things from the week.

1. My March Sadness Tshirt

I saw this tshirt a few years ago and now I will be wearing it for the rest of the Men's NCAA basketball tournament because Texas lost to Purdue in the 2nd Round. I handled it fairly well because Purdue is really, really good and we the guys fought hard as opposed to last year when it seemed that they had never been on a basketball court before. In any event, at this point, I will fully embrace the "I just hope both teams have fun" mantra until the moment I pick out some random kid on some random team and cheer for him like he is my very own flesh and blood. This happens every single year. It's usually a player who throws himself around the court and gets a lot of charge calls and/or shows exceptional leadership who I can use as an example in my various life pep talks to my boys. They really enjoy these talks, as you might imagine.

Having said that, I will not wear this shirt when the Lady Longhorns play Ohio State in the Sweet 16 tonight because while I wish the Buckeyes players tidings of great joy in general, I do not wish them a single moment of fun during the game and I have no shame about it. GO HORNS GO.

2. This Green Romper

I saw this romper on Melanie Shankle's Fashion Friday a few weeks ago and I couldn't decide if it was awful or cute so I ordered it to check it out. She said someone messaged her that it looked like her Middle School Gym Uniform and I have to admit that makes sense. And yet, I still have this thing hanging in my closet. The color is so bright and happy and it's so comfortable. I'm pretty sure this falls in the category of the overalls last week - those things that I might be too old to wear, but I'm also too old to care. I'm going to put on my Able Nera shoes with this romper and wear the heck out of it this summer.

3. The Flight Attendant

Steve and I started watching this show this week. We've only watched three episodes of the first season and the second season is about to come out. Kaley Cuoco is a flight attendant who has a serious drinking problem - it's actually terribly sad and frustrating to watch. There's a murder. She might have been there, but she was too drunk to remember and then we proceed from there with flashbacks while she continues to drink/panic while she tries to figure it out. It might be a stretch to say this was a favorite this week, but I guess it was better than watching basketball games that are lacking Texas Longhorns. *sigh*

4. Lightweight Hoodie

I have a tendency to jump the gun on thinking that the warm weather is here to stay, so it's always good to have a hoodie around when my hopes and dreams for short sleeves are dashed. This is a really cute striped hoodie that is lightweight. It comes in solid colors as well and has pretty good reviews.

5. Kelly Corrigan's For the Good of the Order for Everyone Waiting for News

Kelly Corrigan for the win, AGAIN, this week. Every Friday on her podcast, Kelly Corrigan has a series called, "For the Good of the Order". This week she addresses high school kids waiting for college news, but it's really for anyone who has decide that a certain job or opportunity or event will be the "thing" that makes them happy or even just the "thing" that was meant for them. It's not only a great listen for young adults, but for us oldies as well.

Lately, I've been thinking a lot about the verse from Philippians: "He who began a good work in you, will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus."

It is such a comfort to me to know that He's still working, still paying attention, still planning for his "good work". I think it might be the most important thing to remember when we think about our kids and their disappointments, rejections, and missteps because it is equally important to remember when I think about all of my disappointments, rejections, and missteps. That school - that job - that opportunity - wasn't the be all, end all because if we wake up the next day, He's got a new plan. A "good work". And He's just not finished yet. I can't think of a more hopeful idea than that.

I'll be away next week in Austin for some fun with my college besties, so no Friday Favorites next week. Y'all have a great weekend!

Your “pep talks” for your sons had me LOLing. I feel like my friend, who enjoys going to sporting events but has zero interest/knowledge, would love the “I hope both teams have fun” shirt, haha.  I feel I’m definitely getting to the “I might be too old to wear, but I'm also too old to care” mindset, haha. If it’s fun and comfy, I want to wear it—regardless of the fact that I’m closer to 40 than 20! :D
