5 Friday Favorites: July 22, 2022

It's time for my Friday link up with  A Little Bit of Everything and Momfessionals

On Fridays I share things that made me happy from the week - a photo, a song, a quote, a beauty product, a recipe, a pair of cute shoes, etc. If it's a product, sometimes it's something I actually own and sometimes something I just saw online that gave me a smile. Sometimes it's serious and sometimes it's silly. I suppose I believe that God is in the simple details of life and yes, I can even find Him in a tube of lipstick.

Hello! Is anyone NOT on fire? Anyone? The heat has been downright hateful and I'm going to Philadelphia this weekend for baseball with no relief in sight. This would have really surprised me as a child growing up in Texas because I just figured that it was freezing all the time anywhere north of Oklahoma. Apparently, I wasn't listening in my geography class which was taught by a football coach that we all had a crush on.

This is not his fault. I'm sure he was a great teacher. Except now that I'm thinking about it, he might have taught World Geography, not US Geography. And maybe I should have paid more attention in Science to learn about the rotation of the Earth and seasons and all that. Who knows? Listen, I was too busy thinking about how I needed to get to my locker in between classes to grab my Final Net for yet another touch up spray so that my bangs could reach their full potential, so who even knows.

Thank you for hanging in there for this riveting introduction. I blame the heat. Here are some favorites from the week.

1. A Diet Sun Joy from Chick-Fil-A

This is honestly one of the best things about this summer. I have discovered the Chick-Fil-A Diet Sunjoy drink. It's nothing new - it's basically an Arnold Palmer tea/lemonade combination made with unsweet tea and diet lemonade with a Chick-Fil-A-esque name. This is such a great drink in the summer especially if you've maybe had a few too many Diet Cokes already. My only issue is it costs close to $3 which is madness when a large Diet Coke at McDonald's costs me $1.06. Of course it's your pleasure, Chick-Fil-A. You're ripping me off.

2. New Collection from Park Lane

I have been a stylist with  Park Lane Jewelry for about eight months and a new line just came out. It's got a western vibe to it. (Hey, Beth Dutton) This is my favorite line yet. These chunky Dallas Hoops are so cool and lightweight. They come in gold, rose gold, silver and hematite.

I love this Henley necklace which has blue beads with freshwater and glass simulated pearls. I think it would look perfect with a white summer dress or top.

This Willow bracelet set is a great 3 strand stack of matte textured gold beads with freshwater pearls.  So pretty.

3. Flag & Anthem Plaid Top

If you've read here long enough you know that I have a plaid top problem and there is absolutely no reason in the world why I need another plaid button down. However, Flag and Anthem was having a sale earlier this summer when I was buying Steve some birthday gifts. They have great tshirts for your guys, by the way. I saw this Hampton Relaxed Shirt and thought it would be great for the 4th. It's listed as red, white and purple, but it's really more bluish/purple to me. The top is really thin and soft - not at all a heavy flannel fabric. It's great if it gets cooler at night this summer with a pair of white denim shorts which isn't happening here unfortunately. It's 40% off today!

4. Elta MD Facial Sunscreen

I have mentioned this sunscreen before. It has really been at the top of the list of favorites all summer. I did some serious damage to my face in my teens and 20s, so the ship has sailed a little bit as far as sun damage. However, I really feel like I've limited the damage lately with this. The best part is that it is really lightweight, doesn't leave a white cast on your skin, and absorbs quickly. It works really great under make-up. I will never be without it again.

5. Drake and Josh

I know. It's weird. Stick with me. This week was the first time I'd been home for a five day stretch in a long while. I was getting super annoyed with all the mess of having the house full again. I was wondering for the 17th time that day why there were seven different plastic cups full of water in one kitchen. What is this phenomenon with filling up a cup with water and then just leaving it and coming back later to fill up another one? Are we leaving beverages around for invisible friends?

Anyway, Mama was really close to a good ol' fashioned hissy fit. I was banging around the kitchen, throwing things in the dishwasher. You know how we do. Heavy sighs. Lots of mumbling under my breath. Straight nutjob. Boys were lying on the couch like lazy bums. Then I heard them. Laughing their little butts off. Drew had pulled up episodes of Drake and Josh. They used to watch it when they were little. Here they were - real close to grown adults - watching countless episodes in a row, giggling like fools, anticipating the lines, debating which was the best episode ever. It was the sweetest, most random moment. Maybe I've raised a bunch of animals whose wives will curse me. But they sure do love each other and they have the best time together. What started out as a def-con level meltdown ended up my favorite moment from the whole week.

If your kids aren't getting along or are just being a general pain in your tush, I recommend going old school with something they used to watch together. It's worth a shot.

That's all for today. Have the best weekend, Friends.
