5 Friday Favorites: July 29,2022

It's time for my Friday link up with  A Little Bit of Everything and Momfessionals

On Fridays I share things that made me happy from the week - a photo, a song, a quote, a beauty product, a recipe, a pair of cute shoes, etc. If it's a product, sometimes it's something I actually own and sometimes something I just saw online that gave me a smile. Sometimes it's serious and sometimes it's silly. I suppose I believe that God is in the simple details of life and yes, I can even find Him in a tube of lipstick.

Happy Friday! Super quick today. Have I said that every week? I'm writing in a Spring Hill Suites in Richmond, Virginia this morning. Only a couple of hours until report time for the kid for baseball game #2 of the weekend. As usual, I gotta hustle. Wouldn't want to miss that 5-Star breakfast in the lobby, would I? That line at the waffle maker is brutal. ;-)

Here are some favorites from the week.

1. The Paper Palace

I read this book which is set in Cape Cod this week. Loved it so much. Difficult subject matter at times, but great characters and very well-written.

2. Handle with Care

This is another really compelling book by Jodi Picoult that I started reading this week. I had found it on the shelves at our lake house with some old books that had been there for awhile and picked it up because I hadn't brought a book with me. It is heart-breaking, thought provoking and complicated, but man, can this woman tell a story. I'm only half way through it and I can't put it down.

3. Swimsuit Cover Up

This is a repeat from last summer, but I love this cover up, It comes in a lot of other patterns and solid colors as well. I think it would be too short for my comfort level, but it might be able to be worn as a dress, too.

4. Into the Mystery by NeedtoBreathe

I might have posted this song before, but I heard it again yesterday and I love it so much. In most ways this summer has been the same as countless summers of the past ten years. Baseball tournaments, early morning report times, random hotels, watching reruns of The Office with the boy in random hotels, booking an extra night in random hotels when weather postpones a game, fast food drive thrus, and the search for the shadiest spot at the ballpark. Next year I have no idea where the my littlest big boy will be headed, much less what my life will truly look like with no boys in the house. The only thing I know for certain is that I will follow him into the mystery praying all the way and knowing that God will follow right along with us just as He always has.

5. The Boy I'll Follow into the Mystery

Well, the Facebook memories are just hateful sometimes. This picture came up this morning. Seven years ago today on a field in North Carolina. And I don't have time to get all worked up about it because I gotta get to a field in Richmond before someone snags the shadiest spot.

Happy Weekend, Friends. May you walk toward the mystery with wonder and courage and may you recognize His presence next to you as you wade into it. It's really the only thing we know for sure, isn't it?
