What's Up Wednesday: February Edition

I'm linking up with Sheaffer Told Me To The Larson Lingo and Mix and Match Mama for What's Up Wednesday today.

What We're Eating This Week

www.paleorunningmomma.com

I hadn't eaten much, if any, bread or pasta for about six weeks until we found ourselves at a restaurant in Little Italy in New York City over President's Day weekend. Thus commenced the eating of all the simple carbs on the table and some sort of little powdered sugar donut thingies with such fury that you would have thought I was going to get a prize at the end of the meal. The only prize I got was feeling like Satan had planted himself in my stomach for the next three days. So, I'm back to cleaner eating this week. This website has some great recipes including these super-weirdo parsnip fries. They are surprisingly good.

What I'm Reminiscing About
In 2014 I was asked to help start the first season Kyle's Kamp Diamond Dreams Games to encourage high school sports teams to hold special game nights to raise awareness and funds for pediatric cancer research. We started with just baseball, but now have had soccer, softball, lacrosse and swim teams participate in Dreams Games. I had no idea how amazing these nights would turn out thanks to all the players, coaches and volunteers. In four seasons, these events have raised over $130,000 for Children's National Medical Center. As we begin our 5th season, I'm reminiscing about the first which is re-capped in this video.

Friends, if you have a high school athlete - no matter what sport - you can email me at kyleskamp.jennifer@gmail.com to find out about how your team can host a Dreams game. It will be one you'll never forget.

What I'm Loving

I can't even believe I bought this dress because I am way over the cold shoulder trend, but I couldn't help it because it seemed so perfect for Valentine's Day and it is on sale BIG TIME. Let's just be clear that I spent Valentine's Day in a basketball gym, so this dress did not see the light of day on February 14th. Still for that price, I think I will get some wear out of it.

What We've Been Up To

Our basement flooded over the weekend and then Steve left for a business trip the next day. It's been super-fun around here for the past few days. I've been guzzling coffee and pretending like I have any sort of clue what these plumbers and water damage companies and insurance people are talking about. Just nodding and concentrating as if I ever in my life knew the function of a sump pump. Like a boss, ya'll.

What I'm Dreading

Right now I've got a guy checking out our hot water heater and I'm dreading that he's going to tell me that we need a new one or that it needs a part that's going to cost me an arm and a leg and will take weeks to get here. A girl might be able to deal with a cold shoulder, but she ain't going to deal with a cold shower for one more minute.

What I'm Working On

I have a list of five different hotels around this great land at which I need to make reservations for various baseball tournaments Drew's team will be playing in this spring.  We're coming for you, Hampton Inn. Get that waffle maker fired up. If you're traveling for baseball this season, you might want to print my Travel Baseball Essential Packing List.

What I'm Excited About

Tomorrow I get to go up to Penn State to get my college boy to bring him home for Spring Break. I'm going to make him go see all the movies with me next week.

What I'm Watching

I finished Season 1 of The Good Place. At the recommendation of The Lovely and Talented Mrs. C., I plan to start watching Waco starring the one and only Tim Riggins from the best show of all time, Friday Night Lights. I was reluctant because I really don't need anyone messing with my vision of Tim Riggins by putting those gigantic glasses on him. Those things give whole new meaning to Clear Eyes,Full Hearts.

What I'm Reading

Jenna Bush Hager and Barbara Pierce Bush
I'm loving this book in which the Bush twins share stories of growing up in a political family. I found the stories about their efforts to be normal college students while being protected by Secret Service especially interesting.

Celeste Ng
I finished this a couple of weeks ago and it's really good read. It's been recommended all over the place.

Chrystal Evans Hurst
I bought this book a long time ago, but am just now getting to reading it. I feel like God saved it for me for such a time as this. He's cool that way.

What I'm Listening To

One of my favorite podcasts is The Popcast with Knox and Jamie. They just released a new podcast called The Bible Binge. "Imagine if your Bible 101 class was taught by US Weekly." YES, MA'AM, I'M IN.
What I'm Wearing

It seems like it rained for 72 days in a row here which was okay by me for awhile because I got my first pair of Hunter boots for Christmas this year so I've been wearing the fire out of them. And guess what, friends? They are 40% off here today! Let it rain!!!

What I'm Doing This Weekend

Basketball is over. Baseball hasn't started yet. I'm not sure I know how to live in this world, but I am looking forward to figuring it out.

What I'm Looking Forward To Next Month

Mack and I are looking forward to sunshine. Please, March, bring it.

What Else Is New

Well, my plumber is coming back for the 4th day in a row, so it appears that I have my own personal Schneider now. So if you're counting that means two new things in my life: a new best friend who drives a van with a picture of a toilet on it and also, apparently, a new hot water heater.

Y'all have a great last day of February!
