It's time for my Friday link up with A Little Bit of Everything and Momfessionals.
On Fridays I share things that made me happy from the week - a photo, a song, a quote, a beauty product, a recipe, a pair of cute shoes, etc. If it's a product, sometimes it's something I actually own and sometimes something I just saw online that gave me a smile. Sometimes it's serious and sometimes it's silly. I suppose I believe that God is in the simple details of life and yes, I can even find Him in a tube of lipstick.
Good morning. Friends. I am so glad that Friday's here. It's been a really busy week and maybe not my favorite. Nothing tragic . . . just a lot of things to juggle.
Well, there was one tragedy, if I'm being honest. Wednesday, October 19th. . . a day that will live in infamy. Wednesday morning before I went to Bible Study I realized I had no Diet Coke in the fridge which was rather alarming.
So I hustled to McDonald's to get one. Shockingly, the drive-thru wasn't very crowded, so I was feeling good about getting to Bible Study on time. Then the drive-thru lady said, "We don't have Diet Coke today." To which I said, "I'm sorry? I think I misunderstood you." To which she said, "We don't have Diet Coke today."
It was a good thing there wasn't a camera and that I was headed to Bible Study. So I went across the street to Chick-Fil-A and they gave me a Diet Coke. But THEN, when I pulled away I realized they didn't give me a straw.
I had to park the car and go in and get a straw.
Listen. Life is hard. No one ever said it wouldn't be.
There were better days. Here are some of the highlights.
1. We Were Never Here
There was a mixed consensus on whether this book was good at my book club this week. We all agreed the writing wasn't the best. I liked the story though. Pretty creepy, but kept me guessing and I enjoyed it.
2. Trader Joe's Pumpkin Sticky Coffee Cakes
Speaking of Book Club, my friend, Jen, hosted us and served these amazing Pumpkin Sticky Toffee Cakes with vanilla ice cream from Trader Joe's. I guess thinking back on that after the Diet Coke debacle of October 2022 makes me realize that this week wasn't all that bad after all These things are amazing.
3. BioFreeze Pain Relieving Roll On Gel
Y'all. I did something to my neck. And my shoulders. I would like to tell you that I was working out or lifting weights or something super athletic, but I think what I did is called "sleeping wrong". Or typing on the computer. Or just living my own dumb, regular life as a 53 year old who gets hurt for no good reason. Anyway, my friend at church gave me this stuff and it is a dream. It really helps and I might never be without it again.
4. Maybelline Super Stay Ink Crayon Lipstick
I think I've mentioned this lipstick before, but I picked up a new one recently and it really does stay on for a long time. It doesn't seem as drying as other longwear lipsticks, but I do put a gloss or chapstick on top of it. It's 38% off today which is a random number, but go get it!
5. Tennessee 52 - Alabama 49
It was the best college football game I've seen since Texas beat USC in the National Championship in 2006. Of course, I wanted Tennessee to win because I knew that kid up there was going to be losing his ever-lovin' mind since the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. I also was ever so grateful for his girlfriend who texted me photos and updates including one that said "His phone is dead, but he's not dead. Just letting you know." and "Still alive and screaming at the top of his lungs." Plus she sent photos for evidence.
I know some people think it's insane to get that worked up about sports. But I've said it before and I'll say it again: When the world hands out some joy in any shape or sort, you gotta take it and hold on with both hands. Celebrate, scream, sing that blasted Rocky Top song a zillion times, throw your hands on your head in wonder, rush the field, throw a goal post in the Tennessee River . . . do as you do. Besides all the amazing photos, this was the best thing I got that night when Kyle grabbed his girlfriend's phone and texted this:
The students at Tennessee will remember that day forever. I'm so grateful my kiddo got to experience it. I love you, College Football. Way to deliver.
Have a great weekend, Friends!

What a game. WHAT.A.GAME. We generally go to one a year, and this happened to be the one we picked in July. Wow. My 19-yr-old UTK son felt the same as yours - we got to experience it for ourselves but also through his orange heart.
I left TN this weekend to visit my brother - yesterday I was sitting on his patio with a Diet Coke and Dot’s pretzels and couldn’t understand the joy in that simple pleasure. I won’t try to understand, just embrace.
Thanks for sharing - I did not blog this week so am enjoying everyone else’s posts!!
