5 Friday Favorites: May 17, 2024

t's time for my Friday link up with  A Little Bit of Everything and Momfessionals

On Fridays I share things that made me happy from the week - a photo, a song, a quote, a beauty product, a recipe, a pair of cute shoes, etc. If it's a product, sometimes it's something I actually own and sometimes something I just saw online that gave me a smile. Sometimes it's serious and sometimes it's silly. I suppose I believe that God is in the simple details of life and yes, I can even find Him in a tube of lipstick.

Good morning, Friends. I hope you've had a great week. We had a good one. Seems I was at the grocery store and in the kitchen a lot more often since Drew is home. I also am working on writing that manuscript which also means finding reasons to clean out my closet, watch Netflix, scroll Instagram and decide I really need a nap to clear my head.

Turns out I identify quite a bit with this:

Here are some of the other things that I enjoyed this week when I was avoiding writing.

1. Harry and Meghan Netflix Series

Ok, I know I'm about a year late to this. After I finally watched the last season of The Crown, I went down a Royal Family rabbit hole. I listened to Prince Harry's book, Spare, on Audible. Then while Drew and Steve were away for a boys' trip to Boston for a couple of days, I binged the Harry and Meghan Netflix series. I thought it was really interesting, but like his book, it was mostly just really sad.

2. Workout Tanks

I really have a hard time finding workout tank tops that I like. Here are a couple of reasons which fall in the category of TMI, but here we go. I hate wearing sports bras. HATE them. My shoulders are all jacked-up. They hurt most of the time anyway from all the typing on a laptop at a desk. If I put on a sports bra the straps dig in to my jacked-up shoulders, making them more jacked-up and making me miserable. Here's the TMI, I am not well endowed enough to even need a sports bra anyway, so it really is unnecessary for me to suffer with tight, industrial strength straps digging into my shoulders. Having said that, most work out tanks are racer back style which means your bra straps show. And that's all fine, if it's a sports bra, but not so much if it's a regular bra.

This is so compelling, y'all. Do you want to go ahead and pre-order the book I'm writing now? Heavens.

Anyway, I found  these tanks on Amazon and they aren't a racer back style, so they can be worn with a regular bra. They come in a lot of colors and are super soft and affordable. My shoulders and I will live happily ever after now. The end.

3. Square Aviator Sunglasses

I actually bought some designer sunglasses a few years ago and by a miracle I didn't lose them. However, I sat on them and one of the lenses popped out. (Cue sad trombone) Designer sunglasses are not meant for me apparently. So, Amazon sunglasses it is. I can't recall where I first saw these sunglasses suggested, but I thought I would give them a shot. I adore them. They are a substantial weight, but not too heavy and they've got a fun 70s vibe. They come in lots of different frame and lens colors. I got the gold frame with the gradient brown lens. Best yet, they are only $16.99 AND you can click a box for 5% off today! Lose them. Sit on them. No big deal.

4. Mini Spatula Set

Y'all. I had no idea these existed until I saw my friend Elizabeth's Instagram story just this morning. Yes, scrolling Instagram can be a time suck, but sometimes you find gold. You know that serum/moisturizer/suncreen/magic elixir that you spent way too much money on because of that other Instagram story that made you think you'd look like Jennifer Aniston if you tried it?  These mini-spatulas will help you get out every last bit of that stuff. You don't have to do a tap dance and shake the bottle like a maniac only to end up throwing most of it away. How did I not know about this? How many years did the last drops of my chance to look like Jennifer Aniston end up in the garbage? GENIUS.

5. Speaking at Aldie Methodist

I loved speaking at Aldie Methodist Church on Mother's Day this week.  You can see and hear (most of) my message here. The audio isn't great at the beginning, but once I move to the lectern, it's much better. Mother's Day was a bit easier for me this year, thanks to time, my sweet friends and family and the healing power of Jesus. I hope all the moms out there had a beautiful, peaceful day.

Have a great weekend, Friends.

My youngest is moving back home today too and I was just thinking that maybe I need to make a run to the grocery store ;)
I just bought a tank on Amazon and loved it so much I ordered another and then the next time went ahead and ordered 2. Who cares if they are all alike? When I find something that works, well, you go all in right? Have a great weekend.

I found that with Harry's book and the Netflix documentary. It is just sad.
Those workout tops look great and sound like just what you need.
I am glad the talk on Mother's day went well.
