5 Friday Favorites: June 7, 2024

t's time for my Friday link up with  A Little Bit of Everything and Momfessionals

On Fridays I share things that made me happy from the week - a photo, a song, a quote, a beauty product, a recipe, a pair of cute shoes, etc. If it's a product, sometimes it's something I actually own and sometimes something I just saw online that gave me a smile. Sometimes it's serious and sometimes it's silly. I suppose I believe that God is in the simple details of life and yes, I can even find Him in a tube of lipstick.

Hello, Friday! I'm happy to be back here after a couple of weeks away. We had an amazing beach vacation in Nags Head, North Carolina last week. The weather was unbelieveable and we were so blessed that all of our boys plus Kyle's girlfriend, Merrill, were able to join us. We missed some of our family members, but had 19 people in the house from 11 months to 82 years old, so there was plenty of fun to be had.

I spent most of that time reading, laughing, eating, watching a TON of college baseball and nagging people about sunscreen, but did quite a bit of writing as well. Most of that writing was about heavy stuff, so it's nice to be back here to write a bit of nonsense. I think we would all acknowledge that I'm an expert in the Nonsense Genre.

So, here are my favorites this week which include way more photos of our vacation than you will care to see.

1. Summer Island by Kristin Hannah

I've read so many of Kristin Hannah's historical fiction books, but wasn't really up for something like that for the beach. I picked up this book at Target which seemed lighter than some of her others. I haven't finished it yet, but I've really enjoyed it.

2. Papillio by Birkenstock Arizona Chunky Platform Sandals

Ok here's a story that is way too long about my purchase of pink Birkenstocks. Pour some more coffee.

I have been really late to the Birkenstock game, but I'm totally in now. I think we can all acknowledge that they aren't the cutest shoes of all time. Don't get offended. You know it's true. However, they're growing on me. Also, I acknowledge that maybe they get cuter and cuter as my feet get older and older. I wore flat rubber flip flops all week at the beach and by the end of the week, my feet hurt so much, I was close to wearing my Hoka running shoes with my swimsuit which would certainly have been a bold choice.

Anyway, my sister-in-law and nieces had multiple pairs of Birkenstocks including these chunky heeled platforms. Friends, this is what I have to say: "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and rescues those who are crushed in spirit as the The Papillio by Birkenstock Women's Arizona Chunky Heeled Platforms are close to the brokenfooted and rescues toes that are crushed in spirit." I've never put on more comfortable shoes in all my live-long life.

When I got back home, I immediately went to the Birkenstock Store in Herndon to pick these up. So I linked the shoes above, but if you are in my area, I would encourage you to go there. Please give Patricia your business because she is a delight machine.

Are we on paragraph five about these sandals? Yes, we are. Ok, so I went in to get the taupe sandals because I'm a simple girl who doesn't wear a lot of color. Patricia was helping me and realized that they only had my size in the pink. She was so sweet and funny and adorable. I told her my mom's name was Patricia. She said that she bet my mom was fun. I said she was and that I missed her. She gave me a hug. I went out to my car. I looked up the taupe sandals online and was about to order them. I sat there a minute. I went back in to the store. I said, "Patricia, give me the pink sandals, dadgum it." I bought the pink sandals because why shouldn't I have pink sandals? In the year of our Lord 2024, your girl is going to wear pink sandals because sometimes change is good.

Patricia gave me another hug and told me to think of my mom when I wore my pink sandals.

The end.

3. OPI Let's Be Friends Nail polish

I got a manicure before the beach and I chose  this OPI Let's Be Friends color. I knew it was good when my sister called me after watching a video of me giving a sermon at my church last week and said, "Your message was really great and I promise I listened, but really I coudn't stop looking at your nails and I need you to tell me the color right now." You know when the Holy Spirit gives you a word to deliver to His people, you really don't know how He's gonna use it. You just walk in obedience and hope you bless someone even if it's just with your nail color.

4. Smocked Wide-Leg Jumpsuit

I got this this jumpsuit from Gap Factory. It's really comfortable and casual. It's got pockets for your hands, your phone, your hair tie or your snacks. I'll wear it a ton this summer. It's on sale for $39.99 with an extra 20% off with the code ITSYOURS.

5. My People at the Beach

They just keep being my favorite humans in the world. I just keep wondering how I got so lucky. Please enjoy and/or tolerate the pictures I forced them into. I promise you it's just a fraction of them.

Bonus Favorite:

I was blessed to speak at my very own beloved church on Sunday. If you're interested in the message (or the nail polish) you can go here and choose the June 2, 2024 message.

Y'all have a great weekend.
