5 Things on a Friday: March 11, 2016

Hey, y'all!

It's the weekend. And it's just about that season when the weekends can be as exhausting as the week days. But look at the bright side because well, it's actually been literally bright around here this week! It's been sunny! With temperatures in the 70s! And we've turned on the A/C! And we've had baseball scrimmages! And the extensive use of oxiclean! And a realization that my arms and legs have no business being seen by the world!

Here are some of my favorite things from a week during which I felt like a butterfly coming out of a cocoon. Albeit a butterfly that needs a spray tan something fierce.

 1. A Spring Dress (or specifically this dress)

I actually saw this dress in blue in the Anthropologie catalog last week and then when I went online to check it out, I saw this color and all I have to say is:

"WELL.HOOK.EM.HORNS."

This made my Texan heart sing and I think it would look great with gold jewelry and wedge sandals. Especially if you were maybe going to the Big 12 Conference Basketball Tournament this weekend. And maybe you were going to pretend that the 'Horns didn't lose by 14 points to Baylor in the very first round yesterday. Even though that little party came to a screeching halt, do not let your heart be troubled. We still have March Madness to come and Texas Baseball has started. So to my Longhorn friends [or Longhorn wannabes, because really who isn't :-)], go forth with your cute dress and let's put some Ws on the board, 'kay?

2. St. Patrick's Day

I adore St. Patrick's Day. Last year I offered you the healthy shamrock shake recipe that The Lovely and Talented Mrs. C. had found. This year I am going to make this cake.

And you've been drinking way too much Guinness if you think that there is even a shred of truth to that. Actually, there are some other recipes on this site that are really great and seem more my speed. I'm going to try to make these Creamy Mint Brownies next week for my people.

3. Mountain of God by Third Day

If you've read this blog long enough you know that I mention Third Day's music just about every week. I'm a little obsessed, but it's only because this music has had such a profound effect on me. There is no doubt that my faith has been strengthened, my heart has been settled and my life has been made better by this band's songs. I really can't pick a favorite. Today, I have some friends who are going through some deep, dark valleys. Some who have been in the valley for years and some who have found themselves on the mountain top only to fall swiftly back down. This song is for them. It is for me. It is for you. My family and I are seeing Third Day in concert in a couple of weeks. I will be in full on church lady mode. There might be some hands in the air, praising like I just don't care. Please take some time to pray for my boys and husband. It might get embarrassing.

4. A Real Life Love Story:  President and Mrs. Ronald Reagan

Well, as I was writing this today, I was watching the funeral service for Nancy Reagan. And now, I am a blubbering mess of tears listening to Former Prime Minister Brian Mulroney of Canada read a letter that President Reagan wrote to Nancy. Oh.My.Stars. Move over Leo and Kate because Hollywood could not have written a better love story. These are just the sweetest words you could ever hear. I'm not sure if the text of this letter has made it to the web yet, but you better go search for it. Then show it to your husband and I'm pretty sure he'll feel like he should at least take out the trash or pour you a glass of wine or something. Seriously, though, I think I speak for many in my country when I say, "Oh, how I miss you, Mr. President. But I know that it doesn't compare to how much your beloved missed you when you left. I'm so glad you are together again."

5. Saving the Best for Last

Somebody posted this on Facebook this week. This is Prince on his Junior High basketball team. And all I really have to say about that is You're welcome

Y'all have a great weekend!!!
