5 Friday Favorites: October 7, 2022

It's time for my Friday link up with  A Little Bit of Everything and Momfessionals

On Fridays I share things that made me happy from the week - a photo, a song, a quote, a beauty product, a recipe, a pair of cute shoes, etc. If it's a product, sometimes it's something I actually own and sometimes something I just saw online that gave me a smile. Sometimes it's serious and sometimes it's silly. I suppose I believe that God is in the simple details of life and yes, I can even find Him in a tube of lipstick.

Hello, Friends! I had a cold all last weekend and a headache that decided to stick around all week, so I spent most of the weekend and a lot of this week being super lazy. It rained for about six days in a row so that made it even easier to ignore being productive. If I'm being honest my favorite things were Nyquil, my bed and my pajamas, but I came up with a few other things.

1. Facing Nolan

I admit that this documentary probably isn't for everyone, but if you like baseball or are from Texas and especially if you land in both of those categories, you'll like it. Nolan Ryan is a legend to be sure. His baseball skill and the pitching records he set are incredible, but that wasn't what struck me about him the most. I was incredibly impressed by his wife, Ruth, and the family they have raised together. Plus, you throw some Texas references in there and I'm all the way in.

2. Abbott Elementary Season 2

Like I said, there was a lot of tv watching this weekend. I finished Never Have I Ever Season 3 which was an absolute delight. I also started Season 2 of Abbott Elementary. This show has to grow on you so that you get to know the characters, but goodness I love it so much.

3. Aerie Foldover Jogger & Tee Set

In my new quest to dress more like a toddler than a grown adult women with responsibilites, I found this pair of joggers and matching top when I was surfing the internet and bored this weekend. Both pieces are on sale and it's so comfortable. I love the green, but it comes in black as well.

4. Long Color Block Cardigan

I think every single year when the temperature dips for even a minute, I want to buy a color block cardigan. I also want to wear a cute hat and go apple picking. Alas, these cardigans can be tricky for a short person because they can be so long that it looks like you borrowed your dad's sweater. I also look really dumb in hats and I don't like apples that much. Anyway, a girl can dream, so I am going to give this one a shot. I love the colors and I guess I can replace the hat with a ponytail and the apple picking with sitting on the couch watching football.

5. Knoxville, Tennessee

Speaking of football, goodness gracious did we have a great time in Knoxville watching the Vols beat Florida. There might not be anything that I love more in the world than a tailgate, a fan base that teeters on a line between passionate and flat out insane, and a big ol' victory for the home team.

I also love being with my people and the people that have become their people. My sister and I were talking about the fact that one of the hardest things to navigate when your kids go away is that you've known all of their friends for their whole lives. In fact, oftentimes, you had a hand in those friendships - either because you were already friends with their parents or the fact that you signed them up for a certain sport or club or brought them to a certain church or whatever. And then they go off and meet these random kids and make these friendships all on their own and you don't  know these kids or their parents or what they're like. And then when you meet them you realize your kid found his people WITHOUT even a tiny bit of your help. How in the world? What a concept. It's weird and it's wonderful.

Gosh, we had a blast. And even though I complain about the shade of orange, I will have two tvs on tomorrow at noon to watch both the Horns and the Vols. It's the most wonderful time of the year.

Bonus: Joe came home! And then turned 24!!

Joe came home for a quick stop on the way to Penn State where he went to a game and hung with some college buddies. We celebrated his 24th birthday a little early. And as we sat around the table I just thought, "Man, everyone should have a Joe Skinner in their life."  Later Steve said that having Joe around just makes everything a little bit better. It's the truth. I got so lucky when God gave me him on a rainy Tuesday morning in 1998. I'll never get over it.

Hook Em Horns. Go Vols. (Joe's Nittany Lions are off this week, but I'm in the tank for them as well.) Have a great weekend, y'all.
