It's time for my Friday link up with A Little Bit of Everything and Momfessionals.
On Fridays I share things that made me happy from the week - a photo, a song, a quote, a beauty product, a recipe, a pair of cute shoes, etc. If it's a product, sometimes it's something I actually own and sometimes something I just saw online that gave me a smile. Sometimes it's serious and sometimes it's silly. I suppose I believe that God is in the simple details of life and yes, I can even find Him in a tube of lipstick.
Hello and Happy Friday! Might as well get it out of the way, since this thing happens to be called The View from Behind Home Plate. We had a heartbreaking loss in the State Semi-Final game which was a massive bummer. Of course, only one team in the entire thing gets to avoid the massive bummer and we avoided it for a long time, so we definitely feel blessed to have had the opportunity to watch the boys for so many fun games. They hadn't lost a game since Spring Break until Friday, so I really have no business whining about it.
You'll be shocked to know that I didn't sob my eyes out as I watched Drew and his buddies come off the field together for the last time. It was definitely emotional, but I held it together pretty well. Having said that, while Drew went home to process the whole thing with his teammates, Steve and I stuck around to watch the next semi-final game for a bit. And by watch I mean I sat in the middle of the path near the field by myself shoving a Popeye's chicken sandwich and fries in my face while I stared at the ground and didn't talk to anyone.
I'm totally mentally healthy and cool with the whole thing. Don't worry about it.
Here are some more fun things from the week.
1. Hello Beautiful
I'm slowly reading this book because I've been so tired every night, I keep falling asleep before I get much read. I don't think that has anything to do with the book. I'm really enjoying it. It centers around four sisters and starts out in the 70s in Chicago. Apparently it is an homage to Little Women, but so far I'm not sure - besides the fact that there are four sisters - that I am fully grasping that part. Also, did I mention I'm tired? Maybe it will all come together for me soon.
2. Sunday Riley CEO Rich Hydration Cream
I ran out of the moisturizer I was using in the evening and Sunday Riley always gets great reviews, so I coughed up the money for this CEO Vitamin C Rich Hydration Cream. I love the citrus smell and the fact that it is a thicker consistency than the one I had before. The Vitamin C is supposed to be good for dark spots and uneven tone so even though I'm pretty sure that ship has sailed since I ruined my face by tanning in the 80s, I'm giving it a shot.
3. Two Good Vanilla Yogurt
I never eat yogurt. Ever. But I keep reading about how much more protein I'm supposed be eating at my dumb old age, so I got this one and I really like it. It only has 2 grams of sugar which sounds ok and 12 grams of protein. I even put blueberries in it because they have all the anti-oxidants and I can't remember why that's a good thing, but maybe once I eat some more blueberries, I'll remember. Better than eating a Popeye's chicken sandwich on the ground in the middle of a crowd of people wondering if you need some therapy at least, I guess?
4. A Cute Amazon Tote Bag for Summer
I saw a gal on Instagram talking about how she took this cute Vegan Leather Woven Tote bag on her beach vacation last week. She said you can shake the sand off and wipe it clean easily, that it holds a ton of stuff and it can fit over your shoulder. It comes in a bunch of colors and I think it's so cute. I'm not going to the beach, but it looks perfect for the pool, the lake, or just a trip to the grocery store to get some yogurt.
5. Him
And guess what? He's got a summer league game tomorrow. It ain't over 'til it's over. I gotta go wash some baseball pants.
#AO1 right, buddy? Let's play ball.
Have a beautiful weekend, friends.

I love your writing. It's inspiring and relatable. I generally read on my phone and don't comment from there but I can today! You are so right about all the "feelings" right now. . .and you're processing a death, too, so that is A LOT. God's timing is perfect and I have shared your story of the homerun with more than one person. He does show up and loves to surprise us too, right?
Hang in there. . .empty nesting is harder than I thought it was going to be. . .but this new season has it's new experiences and adventures too :)
Watching your kids in sports, it's crazy how emotional you get into it too! I love watching my girls in their games. I might be that parent yelling on the sidelines. ha!
