Late Monday Daybook: June 4

Outside my window:

There is an elementary school parking lot.  I’m watching Kyle practice with a basketball team he might play with this summer.  Well, technically, I guess I’m not watching.

I’m thinking:
About how in awe I am of my sister who is starting a brand new job where she will impact so many children’s lives - children who I honestly believe specifically need her:  her compassion, her determination, her spirit, her conviction, her intelligence and most definitely, her wide open heart.  We spend hours on the phone and we talk about a lot of stuff.  Sometimes we talk about a lot of nothing.  So, Dude, if I forget to tell you this every day because I’m too busy talking to you about what Kelly Ripa is wearing, I’ll tell you now:  I love you so much that my heart is bursting.  I am ridiculously proud of you.
I am wearing:
Black shorts, white top, blue jean jacket, black sandals

I am listening to:
Dribble, dribble, pass, shoot

I am pondering:
“Mind your own business” and what that particular phrase really means.  I know that seems silly, but I have certain people in my life who I worry incessantly about and I’m trying not to do that.  And there are certain people and situations and behaviors that are so incomprehensible to me that I am literally wasting my time trying to understand what I clearly cannot figure out and quite possibly may never figure out during my lifetime this side of heaven.  (And I know I’m not alone, because have you read the newspaper lately? To put it very eloquently:  there is some seriously messed up stuff going on out there.)  Anyway, most of the time I look at “mind your own business” as the idea of turning my thoughts away from someone else’s problems or someone else’s battle.  But to turn away from something means I need to turn toward something else.  How much of my own business have I not attended when I was busy worrying about someone else’s?  Hmmm….that is quite convicting.
I am wondering:
About that song called Black Horse and a Cherry Tree.  I had my IPod on shuffle the other day when I was running and I hadn’t heard that song in a long time. I was loving it and was singing up a storm and then I realized I have no earthly idea what the heck that song means.   I should probably find out before I continue to scare the people I run past in their front yards.  Actually, come to think of it, I should probably not sing any song out loud.  Ever.

I am thankful for:
The wisdom of my mother.

I am (thinking about) reading:
Prep by Curtis Sittenfeld because I have it and I read American Wife by her a couple of years ago and it was pretty good.  Also, it’s summer and the cover is cute and it looks like an easy enough book to read while I’m trying to keep one eye on a book and one eye on my people at the pool.

I am looking forward to:
The last day of school for all three boys and the 5th grade promotion ceremony for Kyle and his buddies.

Quote for today:
I heard Pastor Tony Evans of Dallas on the radio many months ago referring to how God has a handle on our problems and how we are not to lose sleep by worrying and being anxious about what He clearly has in His hand.  I thought about Pastor Evans when I was tossing and turning last night.  He said that God sees us worrying and says this: “You! You, child.  You need to rest.  I’ve got this.  Ain’t no use us both being up!”  I love that.

Verse for today:
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."- Matthew 11:28

One of my favorite things:
Sunday night, husband at the grill, steak dinner with all five of my people, laughing with them until I can barely breathe and Tums. (in that order.)

A few plans for the week:
A birthday for my hubby which means I will finally after 17 years of marriage try with all my might not to buy him an outfit like this which I sorta love but which he would never wear in a million years:

Cotton-cashmere zip hoodie
And instead will give in and buy him something like this because I sorta love him just the way he is:
Nike Texas Longhorns Baseball Practice Cotton Performance T-Shirt - Burnt Orange
A peek into my day:

I like all your favorite things - except Tums!

I had to smile at your two outfits for your hubby. I could never get my hubby to wear what I liked either.

I think that story Tony Evans told is so true- God never sleeps so why should we both be up?
