Day(Night)book: Late Monday. September 17

Outside my window:
I am sitting in the waiting room of an indoor baseball facility, so out of one window I see baseball players hitting balls into nets and out of the other it is getting dark and cooler.  You're leaving me, Summer.  You're getting all distant...I knew it, you jerk.
I am thinking:
of the craziness of our schedule . . . the school, the sports, the church, the activities.  Sometimes I think that we excitedly hopped on this train without much thought and so did a lot of people.  I've met some great people on this train.  We're having a great time on this ride, but sometimes I just think that this train is going so fast that we can't hop off.  I'm not sure I even want to hop off.  It's just sometimes I wonder if when we get to the end of the trip and the train stops . .  . will I  remember the view along the tracks or will it just be a big blur?   (I apologize if that makes zero sense . . . anyone?  Does that make any sense to anyone?)
I am thankful:
for the gift of spending time with a dear friend as we watched our boys play baseball against each other.  We were pregnant together, had our boys 4 days apart, almost 14 years ago and spent countless long days and evenings together as we muddled  through newborns, toddlers, 2nd babies and husbands working into the night.  Eventually school and another baby and life happened and we went way too long between conversations.  What a surprise to roll into a game to find my long lost girlfriend would be sitting on the other side of the bleachers.  We found a space in the middle to talk and hug and laugh.  What a blessing to snap a picture of two little baby boys all grown up and together again, playing on the big field.

In the kitchen:
Joe baked a chocolate cake . . . he might put me out of a job soon, if we're lucky.
I am wearing:
jeans, long-sleeved striped top, red scarf AND Kyle's baseball jacket.  Y'all, I'm cold and I'm not ready to be cold yet.  Please, Summer, I still love you.  Don't leave me yet.
I am listening to:
bats hitting baseballs, coaches talking about load, stride, swing, blah, blah, blah
I am going:
to Back to School Night #3 this week, but it won't be as much fun because the lovely and talented Mrs. C. won't be at this one.  Last week we got some dirty looks because we got the giggles during the Principal's introduction.  I know, I need to grow up.  It's sad.
I am reading:
I am starting a Beth Moore Bible study of Esther and a Community Bible Study on The Divided Kingdom and the Minor Prophets and I'm reading Jen Hatmaker's  7:  An Experimental Mutiny on Excess.  Perhaps I've bitten off more than I can chew, but I'm excited about all of them.
I am hoping:
to decide on a new couch this week.  I can make a grown up decision.  I can.
I am looking forward to:
two groups of women to study with this week.
I am learning:
how to have "woodpecker faith"...read about it here.
I am praying:
for the ability to be present, to live simply in the moment, to keep trusting His plan.
On my Ipod:
Healing Begins by Tenth Avenue North.  They were in town last night and I'm sad I missed them.  Amazing lyrics, amazing band.
I am pondering:
this Jen Hatmaker chick is making me ponder everything . . . my clothes, my food, my car, my phone, my HAIR!...so very much to ponder and really that is what I'm pondering:  that it is all so very much.
A quote for today:
In light of the sheer volume of scripture studying I'm about to start, I think this quote from Jen Hatmaker in 7 is brilliant:  " . . . when the exhaustive exegesis of God's Word doesn't create people transformed into the image of Jesus, we have missed the forest for the trees . . . The careful study of the Word has a goal, which is not the careful study of the Word.  The objective is to discover Jesus and allow Him to change our trajectory."
A verse for today:
"Be joyful always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." - 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
One of my favorite things:
Monday lunch date with Steve.
A few plans for the week:
Lots of Bs:  Baseball, Back to School night, Bible reading, Beth Moore.

Hello! Enjoyed your entry. And yes, I get the whole train thing and the blur and the wondering if we should get off at the next stop and just look around for a bit. :-) Your entry is just above mine at Simple Woman so I thought I would visit. I'm afraid you have tempted me with Jen Hatmaker's book! Blessings on your day - B.
