5 Friday Favorites: October 18, 2024

It's time for my Friday link up with  A Little Bit of Everything and Momfessionals

On Fridays I share things that made me happy from the week - a photo, a song, a quote, a beauty product, a recipe, a pair of cute shoes, etc. If it's a product, sometimes it's something I actually own and sometimes something I just saw online that gave me a smile. Sometimes it's serious and sometimes it's silly. I suppose I believe that God is in the simple details of life and yes, I can even find Him in a tube of lipstick.

Hello, Friends.

It's been a busy, fun week around here. I've been doing a lot of fall-cleaning out of the closets, got to go see Mean Girls the Musical with my "Opposite of a Mean Girl" friend, Jen, cooked three actual dinners (thank you very much), studied the Bible with my Wednesday study buddies, got my rear end to Orange Theory a few times, watched more of The Chosen and did quite a bit of writing.

I've been out of town a lot lately and will be again next week, so it was good to be home and productive for a few days.

Let's start 5 Favorites with a bonus very best moment of the week:

Last year I went to the Red River Rivalry with stars in my eyes and hope in my burnt orange heart and left with tears in my eyes and despair in my heart after we lost in the last couple of minutes. Last week I was at a wedding reception during the game and had to bounce back and forth between the beautiful outdoor reception and a tv inside the house multiple times throughout the festivities. I could see the tv through a window, so even when I was outside at the reception there was a good chance that I was pretending to be a part of whatever conversation I was in whilst stealing glances through the window trying to determine how many yards we needed to get a 1st down. I'm certain that any guest I was speaking to thinks I'm deaf and/or dumb as a box of rocks and/or the rudest person alive.

Thanks for your concern about my mental health. It is not misplaced.

Tomorrow Texas plays the Georgia Bulldogs. This will certainly be the biggest test of the season yet. I will be watching with my husband and my dog because if last week was a test to see if  I am capable of participating with the general population during a Texas game, I failed.

Here are some favorite things about the week other than the beatdown we put on the Oklahoma Sooners.

1. Perfect Airplane Attire

I've been flying a lot lately and have made some mistakes in my airplane attire. A few weeks ago I wore a dress on the airplane because I knew I was going to be going straight to shopping and lunch right when I arrived. Bad idea. I was so uncomfortable and worse, my legs were FREEZING. I think a cute set and sneakers is the ideal airplane attire and this one is on sale right now. So cute and comes in lots of colors. 2. Shrimp Tacos

Earlier this week, I made these shrimp tacos . The recipe is simple and they were so good. I think the key is the sauce. PS I doubled the amount of sriracha in the sauce.

3. Wet Brush

I've mentioned it before, but my hair is breaking and falling out. It's part of the joys of perimenopause. What a delight. I'm trying the Nutrafol supplements, minoxidil drops, the satin pillowcase, etc. etc - all of which may or may not be equal to throwing my money down the toilet.  I'll try just about anything short of a wig at this point. Recently my sister told me about the wet brush. The description says "45% less breakage, 55% less effort, 100% happier hair." SOLD. I'm such a sucker.

4. Moroccan Thickening Lotion

Shall we continue with the sad hair journey I'm on? This week I had a hair appoitment and my stylist used this thickening lotion before the blow dry. It actually gave it some volume. I haven't asked my hair if she's happier today, but there seem to be some postive vibes.

5. Mom and Dad Got Dressed Up

We never have our picture taken together, but we went to a wedding this weekend and there was a photographer who took our photo and sent it to our phones. TAA-DAH! Quite different from our own wedding where we had disposable cameras - remember those? - at the tables at the rehearsal dinner and one very expensive (and equally annoying, as I recall)  photographer who ran around the reception stalking everyone.

Speaking of our wedding, I'll be married to this dude for 30 years in January. What in the world? It is not easy to be married to me. This season of life has found me easily overwhelmed and a smidge bat-sh$& crazy. Somehow he keeps sticking around. I'm so grateful.

Have a good weekend, Friends. Hook 'em Horns.
